AMD FSR 3.1: Revolution in frame generation for PC gamers

AMD has officially unveiled FSR 3.1, the latest version of its upscaling and frame generation technology, which promises significant improvements for PC gamers. This version not only brings higher image quality, but also broad compatibility with GPUs from different manufacturers. The new update now brings AI support, as already hinted at in March.

  • Frame generation now also on Nvidia and Intel GPUs: AMD FSR 3.1 can now also be used on Nvidia GeForce RTX and Intel Arc GPUs.
  • Improved image quality: Less ghosting, flickering and unwanted image interference.
  • Five supported games at launch: including “Horizon Forbidden West” and “Spider-Man: Miles Morales”.

New standards for frame generation

The launch of FSR 3.1 marks a significant step forward in frame generation technology. AMD has managed to decouple frame generation from upscaling technology. This means that frame generation can now be used independently of other upscaling solutions such as Nvidia DLSS or Intel XeSS. This innovation allows gamers to take advantage of FSR 3.1 frame generation even on older Nvidia RTX GPUs that do not support DLSS 3 frame generation.

This innovation is particularly interesting for owners of older Nvidia RTX graphics cards, as they can now use DLSS without frame generation and at the same time benefit from the frame generation of FSR 3.1.

Currently, Nvidia only offers frame generation for cards in the GeForce RTX 4000 series, but RTX 2000 and RTX 3000 cards can also use FSR 3.1. However, this only applies to games that support FSR 3.1, a list that is constantly growing.

Supported games and upcoming titles

At launch, FSR 3.1 will be supported in five games, including some popular PlayStation ports such as “Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition”, “Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered”, “Spider-Man: Miles Morales”, “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” and “Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut”. Other titles such as “God of War Ragnarok” are also in the pipeline.

FSR 3.1 not only brings an improvement in picture quality, but also greater flexibility and compatibility, making it an attractive option for a wide range of PC gamers.

With support for 60 games through FSR 3 and the continued expansion of FSR 3.1 support, AMD remains at the forefront of graphics technology and is setting new standards for the gaming community.

According to AMD, an average of 3.3x higher frame rates can be achieved in modern games thanks to FSR 3. This figure applies to AMD Radeon RX 7000 cards at 4K and 1440p resolution. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart even delivers 3.6 times more frames per second, while Lords of the Fallen achieves 4.4 times the frame rate.

Conclusion: Frame generation for everyone

AMD FSR 3.1 offers an exciting advancement in frame generation technology that benefits not only AMD users, but also owners of Nvidia and Intel GPUs. With improved image quality and the ability to use frame generation independently of upscaling solutions, AMD is taking the gaming experience to a new level.

The technology is already available in five games, with many more to come. Gamers can look forward to improved performance and image quality, regardless of their GPU brand. FSR 3, already supported in 60 games, is also getting better.
