Bedrock: Amazon presents AI portfolio

Amazon wants to compete with OpenAI and has presented its AI portfolio called Bedrock. It is supposed to enable text and image creation and much more. The new services can initially only be used by a few people.

In-house AI systems

With Bedrock, Amazon is obviously pursuing the goal of becoming the market leader in the AI sector as well. Bedrock differs from competing products such as Chat-GPT primarily in that the software combines many functions in one place and is deeply integrated into Amazon’s system. For example, it should not only be possible to write or summarize texts and design images; advertisements for Amazon should also be generated automatically on a product-specific basis.

Amazon also wants to stand out from the competition by offering customization options. For example, it is possible to train the models with your own data, which could be particularly important in a business context. It is also possible to access AI software from selected other companies in the Bedrock environment. The image generator Stable Diffusion, for example, is integrated.

Bedrock is currently only accessible to a limited number of AWS users. It is not yet known when the AI software will be made available to the general public. However, Amazon has announced at the same time that the AI program CodeWhisperer, which is designed to help with programming, will be made publicly available.

Warnings regarding AI development

Amazon’s push shows that the biggest tech companies are not backing down from recent warnings from a wide variety of directions about ill-considered further AI development. With the automatic creation of advertisements and the comprehensive AI integration into its system, Amazon is rather taking a feared next step: AI systems are being integrated into more and more areas of the Internet for profit and are becoming more broadly usable for more and more tasks. The consequences are not yet foreseeable and Amazon and Co seem to want to leave no room for debates and test runs. Most recently, more than 1,000 experts from the technology industry called for a moratorium on AI development because the risks to society and humanity were incalculable.
