Bosch Performance Line CX: The new era of e-mountain biking

Bosch has revised its tried-and-tested Performance Line CX and is once again setting new standards in the e-mountain bike segment. With a focus on optimized power transmission, precision and flexibility, the new drive generation is aimed at sporty riders who expect maximum control and performance on demanding terrain.

Important innovations:

  • Improved motor control: Even more precise performance thanks to enhanced sensors and fine-tuned control for every riding dynamic.
  • Automated riding mode: Automatically adapts the support to the terrain and pedal force.
  • Extended Boost function: Increased support on short climbs for maximum riding enjoyment.
  • Smart System Integration: Full compatibility with the Bosch eBike Flow app for a personalized riding experience.

Focus on performance and precision

The new Performance Line CX is characterized by an even more efficient motor that guarantees consistent power output even on steep climbs. Thanks to the use of a powerful, newly tuned motor with 85 Nm torque, the e-mountainbike becomes an absolute power machine on any terrain. The Extended Boost function ensures that short, steep climbs can be mastered even more smoothly.

Several high-performance sensors precisely measure the pedal input – more than 1,000 times per second. These include numerous sensors, including a high-resolution cadence sensor and precise torque measurement technology. Inertial sensors (IMU) also measure acceleration and rotation rates in six dimensions and detect incline and decline angles as well as vibrations.

Of particular interest to sporty riders is the newly added automatic mode, which intelligently adapts the pedal assistance to the conditions. This creates the perfect balance between power and motor assistance, which is particularly advantageous on technically demanding routes.

The new Performance Line CX is also characterized by particularly low noise levels. When riding downhill, the external drivetrain (chain, chainring, cassette) is decoupled from the internal drivetrain (freewheel, gearbox, motor). This has further reduced the mechanical noise generated by comparable drive units on the trail. At the same time, the weight has been reduced by around 100 grams. The magnesium housing should nevertheless withstand even the toughest conditions.

Integration with the Bosch Smart System

Another highlight is the complete integration into the Bosch Smart System. Using the associated eBike Flow app, riders can configure the motor parameters according to their wishes and receive real-time updates. This makes the riding experience individually customizable and always keeps it up to date with the latest technology.

The new Kiox 300 display and the Mini Remote Controller offer intuitive operation while riding and clearly display all the necessary information such as speed, battery status and power output.

The new Purion 400 display is part of the sporty ecosystem and complements the Performance Line CX. With a minimalist look adapted for eMTBs and optimally protected in the handlebar triangle, the transmissive 1.6-inch display provides an overview of the key riding and fitness data such as speed, range, power or total distance.

With the PowerTube 800, Bosch has developed the largest PowerTube battery in the smart system to date. At around 205 Wh/kg, the battery has the highest energy density in the portfolio. The portfolio is complemented by the new PowerTube 600.

Bosch uses battery cells with an optimized energy density and a newly developed aluminium housing for both batteries. Seamlessly integrated into the frame tube, they blend harmoniously into the eBike design. Thanks to their identical length, they can be easily removed and replaced – if provided for by the eBike manufacturer. They are also DualBattery-capable and can be combined. eMTB enthusiasts can use two PowerTubes 800, for example, to achieve a total capacity of 1,600 Wh.

Conclusion

With the new Bosch Performance Line CX, the manufacturer is once again setting new standards in e-bike technology and offering ambitious riders a first-class package of performance, precision and intelligent integration. Available in numerous models for 2024, the line offers an outstanding riding experience for the modern e-mountain biker. The Performance Line CX is priced in the upper segment and is clearly aimed at discerning users who do not want to compromise on performance and quality.
