CES 2022: Acer unveils three portable and high-performance Chromebooks

Acer presented a number of new Chromebooks at the CES 2022 trade show in Las Vegas. The company announced a total of three new devices, which are primarily aimed at families and students and also cut a good figure for mobile work. The new Chromebooks come in three sizes and are equipped with the latest audio and video technologies.

Acer Chromebook Spin 513: Elegant design with VertiView display

The smallest of the bunch is the Acer Chromebook Spin 513. Here, the manufacturer relies on a 34.29 cm (13.5 inch) VertiView display with an aspect ratio of 3:2. This increases the vertical screen area by a whole 18 percent so that more content – without having to scroll – can be displayed.

The display’s resolution of 2,256 x 1,504 pixels and the only 7.7 mm narrow side edges ensure a sharp image and offer plenty of room for multitasking.

Powered by the latest eight-core MediaTek Kompanio 1380 processor and up to 10 hours of battery life, the Spin 513 lets you work productively on projects throughout the day while the Chromebook stands up to a school or university day.

Four work modes

The new Chromebook Spin 513 also focuses on a flexible design. The four different work modes make it easy to adapt the device to your own needs. The tablet mode, for example, is perfect for watching videos on the couch or following online classes, while the tent mode is ideal for being able to work productively in tight spaces.

The Chromebook’s rugged aluminum chassis is also MIL-STD 810H1 certified for extra durability. Two upward-facing speakers in combination with DTS Audio provide excellent sound including surround sound. The upward-facing microphones also ensure clear intelligibility during conferences and video calls.

In addition, the Chromebook features a backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi 6 for reliable connectivity, and a USB Type-C port for connecting to peripherals, transferring data, and charging mobile devices.

Acer Chromebook 315: Large 15.6-inch anti-glare display and OceanGlass touchpad

The Acer Chromebook 315 (CB315-4H/T), on the other hand, turns out to be somewhat larger. The 39.6 cm (15.6-inch) FHD IPS display is anti-glare, so it is also easy to read outdoors. The optional touch display allows for easy navigation and the large keyboard has room for a dedicated numeric keypad, which is especially useful when working on number-based documents and school assignments.

The latest Intel processors and Wi-Fi 6 deliver reliable performance and connectivity. A battery life of up to 10 hours allows working for a longer period of time without having to charge the device.

Hybrid workers and students are seen and heard clearly in video calls thanks to two built-in microphones and a wide-field-of-view HDR webcam that actively reduces stray light. DTS audio delivers rich sound with deep bass for video calls, gaming or streamed content. Additionally, the device features two USB Gen 2 Type-C ports and a MicroSD card reader.

In addition, the Acer Chromebook 315 relies on an eco-friendly OceanGlass touchpad, which is made entirely of plastic waste from the ocean that has been recycled into a glass-like texture. The touchpad is smooth and responsive in use while helping to reduce plastic floating in the ocean.

Acer Chromebook 314: Cheap, light and with OceanGlass touchpad

The third in the bunch is the Acer Chromebook 314. The Chromebook’s 35.56 cm (14-inch) FHD IPS touchscreen display has an anti-glare coating, so it can be used in brighter lighting conditions. At the same time, the side edges are extremely narrow at 8.1 mm.

It is powered by the latest Intel Core processors, which provide solid performance for everyday use. In addition, the device has MIL-STD 810H1 certification. The battery life of up to 10 hours is enough to last an entire school day, while Intel Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) offers up to three times faster connection speeds than Wi-Fi 5.

In addition, a particularly eco-friendly OceanGlass touchpad is also installed here. In addition, the Chromebook offers two built-in microphones and a webcam with TNR (Temporal Noise Reduction) technology for better video quality in low-light conditions. DTS Audio delivers a full, high-quality and distortion-free sound. Two USB Type-C ports complete the package, allowing users to connect a variety of peripherals.

While no price has been announced for the Spin model yet, the other two models start at an MSRP of 399.00 Euros in the case of the Chromebook 315, and 369.00 Euros for the Chromebook 314, respectively.
