Cherry Xtrfy: Manufacturer launches 3 gaming keyboards

In mid-December 2022, Cherry announced the purchase of the peripheral manufacturer Xtry. From then on, they wanted to publish starte gaming keyboards under a joint name. Now they presented the first models under the new label Cherry Xtrfy: With the MX-LP 2.1 Compact Wireless, the MX 3.0S Wireless and the MX 8.2 Wireless one starts with three gaming keyboards.

Cherry Xtrfy: Focus on Esports and Competitive Gaming

Xtrfy, the manufacturer known for its gaming peripherals, and Cherry, the manufacturer of mechanical keyboards, are now doing business together under one roof. Cherry Xtrfy is the name of the new gaming brand aimed at esports and competitive gaming.

At a release event on April 26, 2023 at the Xperion in Cologne, Germany, the company unveiled its strategy and the new products it hopes to inspire gamers worldwide.

The mechanical keyboards all rely on Cherry Advanced Wireless technology, a special operating mode with particularly low latency that aims to offer a competitively low input delay of less than one millisecond even in Bluetooth mode.

The company wants to avoid interference by constantly changing the radio frequency; Cherry Xtrfy keyboards are supposed to use a total of 40 radio channels. Of course, the world’s leading mechanical Cherry MX switches are also used.

MX-LP 2.1 Compact Wireless

The first keyboard from Cherry Xtrfy goes by the name MX-LP 2.1 Compact Wireless. It comes in a compact 65 percent layout and is offered with colorful keycaps in various designs. Here, the manufacturer relies on MX low-profile switches of the MX Speed type.

The keyboard naturally turns out correspondingly flat. However, you can counteract this, similar to the Mountain Everest keyboard, by installing feet on the keyboard. The only difference is that they are made of rubber.

The battery of the MX-LP 2.1 Compact Wireless has a capacity of 650 mAh, but the manufacturer does not give any information about the runtime. But about the price, which should be around 140 euros.

MX 3.0S Wireless

The MX 3.0S Wireless is considerably larger, with a full-size layout. This model is also powered via battery, which can be charged via USB Type-C. The case is made of aluminum, while rubberized feet provide a secure grip. However, aluminum feet and a palm rest are optionally available.

Cherry Xtrfy promises full N-key rollover, anti-ghosting and abrasion-resistant keycaps (PBT Double-Shot), and RGB lighting is of course out. Cherry MX Red or MX Brown are used as switches. The connection is either Bluetooth Low Latency Mode (LLM), 2.4 GHz wireless or via cable.

MX 8.2 Wireless

Wireless, on the other hand, is again the MX 8.2 Wireless, which relies on a TKL layout. The keyboard comes to your home in an attractive, color-matching, aluminum case. A special insulation made of silicone and foam is supposed to provide for a quiet and pleasant typing experience.

Three different connection modes are available here as well. From Bluetooth to 2.4 GHz wireless to wired use. RGB lighting and specially developed companion software for adjusting the lighting, keys or polling rate are also available.

Prices and availability

The manufacturer has not yet revealed when exactly the new keyboards will appear under the Cherry Xtrfy label. There is only talk of “in the near future”. In terms of price, the MX-LP 2.1 Compact Wireless is 140€, the MX 3.0S Wireless is 180€ and the MX 8.2 Wireless is 210€.
