Compact Video Glasses Huawei VR Glass Unveiled

Huawei presented its new High-End-Smartphone Mate 30 and the Watch GT 2 as well as the compact video glasses VR Glass during the presentation in Shanghai, which can reproduce contents of smartphones and computers. Compared to other VR glasses, the compact design of the VR lens is particularly striking, weighing only 166 grams and 2.66 centimeters deep.

The LC displays each have a resolution of 1,600 x 1,600 pixels (3K resolution), which corresponds to a pixel density of 1058 ppi. Audio is reproduced via stereo speakers integrated in the earpieces. Unfortunately, the field-of-view (FoV) of the VR glasses would not be published during the event. According to Huawei, the picture quality is on the level of the Oculus Quest despite the much smaller form factor of the VR glass.

In so-called smartphone mode, the VR Glass can play IMAX films and TV series via a number of Chinese streaming portals. VR games should also be possible.

In China, VR glasses will be released in December for the equivalent of 380 euros. It is not yet known whether the glasses will also be launched in Germany. Since during the leek event only Chinese streaming services were explicitly mentioned as content suppliers, a leek outside the Huawei core market is rather unlikely. In addition, the fact that the Huawei VR Glass was not shown during the leek event of the Huawei Mate 30 in Munich also speaks for it.
