Cowboy Cross: New e-bike for difficult terrain presented

Manufacturer Cowboy from Belgium is one of the most iconic suppliers of e-bikes and is flying the flag for smart bikes following the bankruptcy of VanMoof. The Cowboy Cross is the first bike to be equipped with suspension, making it suitable for difficult terrain away from paved roads.

Cowboy Cross: Smart e-bike for off-road rides

Whether Classic, Cruiser or Cruiser ST, the smart e-bikes from Cowboy have so far come without suspension and were therefore primarily intended for city traffic. This changes with the Cowboy Cross presented today, because the name says it all:

A suspension front fork and suspension seat post are intended to make the Cross more suitable for off-road riding in combination with the large tires, even though it is still not a proper E-MTB. Incidentally, e-mountainbikes are among the most popular models in the e-bike sector.

Both suspension systems offer a suspension travel of 40 mm, while the puncture-proof tires have a width of 60 millimetres, which promises impressive riding comfort.

The e-bike is powered by a 250 watt motor with a torque of 45 Nm. The removable battery has a capacity of 540 Wh and should enable a range of 60 to 120 kilometers. The battery is fully charged in around three hours.

The power is transmitted using a robust carbon belt, which should make the Cowboy Cross very low-maintenance and particularly durable.

Two variants, but high weight

Cowboy offers the Cross in two versions. The normal Cowboy Cross has a high step-through, while the Cross ST has a low step-through. The latter is slightly lighter with a weight of 26.5 kg, while the Cross weighs in at a whopping 27.9 kg.

There is also a “Check my Bike” function, which carries out a diagnosis in the event of a fall, for example, and checks the functionality and performance of the e-bike. This should allow you to determine for yourself whether the Cross may need to be repaired.

There is also a “Find my Bike” function to protect the bike from theft. The Cross can be tracked via GPS using the app. It is even possible to check nearby buildings via Bluetooth. Turn-by-turn navigation via Google Maps, Share my Ride (sharing the live position with friends) and Predictive Alerts are also included.

The latter are designed to warn you of danger spots on your route and inform you about steep gradients or particularly rough terrain, for example. Live Challenges are also intended to serve as a fitness incentive.

Price and availability

The Cowboy Cross will go on sale at an RRP of €3,999 and is available to pre-order immediately on the manufacturer’s website. Early birds will only pay 3,499 euros at the start. The Cross is available in three different colors: Lava (dark grey), Mushroom (lighter grey) or Moss (dark green).
