Eve Outdoor Cam: Replenishment for Apple’s security system

At CES 2022, a lot of upcoming products from the fields of consumer electronics and electromobility were presented. But not only that. On top of that, the topic of security systems also played a major role again. The Eve Outdoor Cam, for example, was a promising surveillance camera that can be conveniently integrated into the home network. A highlight: Thanks to strong floodlight, the camera with support for Apple HomeKit Secure Video should not be able to miss anything.

Surveillance camera for Apple fans

With its outdoor cam, manufacturer Eve is clearly focusing on the Apple community. This is made clear first and foremost by the support of Apple HomeKit Secure Video. Accordingly, the use of the outdoor surveillance camera also requires an Apple device. This is a big advantage, especially in terms of data protection. The Apple exclusivity means that the collected motion pictures are not stored in Eve’s usual cloud. Instead, the camera stores its recordings in the user’s personal iCloud. This means that the videos can only be accessed from the user’s iPhone or iPad. This means that the recorded videos do not even end up on any servers of other providers, but remain in the iCloud with the highest possible data security thanks to a peer-to-peer connection.

Intelligent image recognition

As soon as the Eve Outdoor Cam detects something suspicious, it can forward an optional push notification to the Apple user’s device. What’s exciting about this is that the notification doesn’t just happen upon random movement. Instead, the camera can even detect what kind of object it is. You’ve given your mailman permission to drop off your packages? Then the surveillance camera should be able to detect just that and forwards a message accordingly. In addition, there are the usual features that have become standard in the field of security systems. Among other things, the camera should be able to start an automatic recording as soon as a movement is registered.

Nothing should escape the floodlight

.
Should anything happen in the 157-degree field of view of the Eve Outdoor Cam, the user is unlikely to miss it. This is not only ensured by the large radius of the camera. A night vision function should also provide the desired overview. Much more noticeable, but by no means less effective, is the optional floodlight of the surveillance camera. It can be set to turn on automatically when motion is detected. Not only the technology is impressive. Eve doesn’t do things by halves when it comes to design either. The hardware is hidden in a chic matte black case made of high-quality metal.

Of course, the manufacturer also makes sure that its outdoor cam offers appropriate protection from external weather conditions. Thus, Eve has designed the metal housing of the surveillance camera according to the IP55 standard so that it is reliably protected against the harmful penetration of dust or water. By the way, you cannot rely on wireless battery operation here. Instead, Eve’s Outdoor Cam requires an active power connection. Of course, the connection to the home network is wireless. Here, the Outdoor Cam offers support of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz as well as 802.11a/b/g/n.

Practical remote speaker

Without further ado, Eve also builds a microphone as well as a speaker into its Outdoor Cam. With this, the manufacturer wants to make it possible to use the camera as a telephone. As mentioned at the beginning, the Eve Outdoor Cam can only be used with a suitable Apple device. It should be possible to control the camera with either an iPhone or iPad. But that’s not all. On top of that, it is mandatory that you have an iCloud+ subscription as a user. This not only provides you with an extension of your online storage. It also unlocks the HomeKit Secure Video feature for Apple.

Price and availability

On April 5, the Apple-exclusive surveillance camera will go on sale at an MSRP of $249.95.
