Evercade EXP: Cheap gaming handheld for retro games launches in winter

With its Evercade ecosystem, manufacturer Blaze Entertainment already offers various stationary consoles that allow playing retro titles via classic modules. With the Evercade EXP, a new retro handheld from the company awaits you at an affordable price in winter 2022.

Evercade EXP: Retro gaming on the go

The retro home console Evercade VS from the manufacturer Blaze Entertainment has already been available in stores (and also in Germany) since December 2021 and enjoys great popularity among older gaming fans.

With the help of the Evercade cartridge infrastructure, hundreds of retro games from the 8-, 16- and 32-bit era can be experienced in a total of 34 modules. These include titles such as the Worms series, games from Atari and Namco arcade classics.

From now on, this will also work on the go, as the company will launch the Evercade EXP gaming handheld in winter 2022. It can be equipped with the same modules that can also be found in the VS.

These are displayed on a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. However, the EXP also has an HDMI port, thanks to which it can be displayed on a TV or monitor in 720p resolution, or 1,280 x 720 pixels.

The technology of the Evercade EXP

In addition, the Evercade EXP gaming handheld has a processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, 4 gigabytes of memory and built-in stereo speakers. System updates can be downloaded via Wi-Fi, and connecting headphones is no problem thanks to the 3.5 mm jack output.

The 3000 mAh battery is charged via USB Type-C. It is supposed to provide around 4-5 hours of retro gaming before it has to be charged. The EXP also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of operation.

A large D-pad, four classic action buttons (A, B, X, Y), a start and select button, as well as two bumpers (L1 and R1) and two triggers (L2 and R2) are offered. The Tate mode is also exciting, for which two additional action keys below the screen can be used.

Here, the handheld can be used in portrait mode, which is of course particularly suitable for arcade shooters. There is also supposed to be additional, unspecified bonus content in September 2022.

Also included is the IREM Arcade 1 game collection with 6 classic games from the renowned arcade developer. The game collection includes arcade hits R-Type and In The Hunt, classics Moon Patrol and 10 Yard Fight, and fan favorites Battle Chopper (Mr. Heli) and Lightning Swords.

Price and Availability

The Evercade EXP gaming handheld will be available in stores in winter 2022. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $149.99. For more details, check out the official homepage. If you want to experience the retro games already, you can currently secure the Evercade VS home console for 123.14 euros at Amazon. The modules, which each contain up to 20 titles, are just under 20 Euros each.
