Fossil Gen 6: details, images and prices of the smartwatch leaked

With the Fossil Gen 6 Wear OS smartwatch, the watch manufacturer wants to take on the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 models in the fall. A comprehensive leak already reveals the most important details about the new smartwatch.

Fossil Gen 6 with powerful processor

Around one week after the first teaser, the most important details about the upcoming Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch circulated due to a leak from Winfuture. Accordingly, Fossil relies on the latest Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor, which should be significantly superior to the 3100 of the predecessor in terms of performance. The chip offers four ARM Cortex-A53 cores with up to 1.7 Gigahetz and a faster Adreno A504 GPU.

Bluetooth 5.0 is supported for communicating with the smartphone, and GPS is also on board. Eight gigabytes of storage are available for the wide-ranging catalog of Wear OS apps or for pictures and other content.

The built-in 1.28-inch OLED panel is said to impress with a resolution of 416 x 416 pixels, which corresponds to a value of over 300 ppi and should ensure a razor-sharp image.  Furthermore, the Fossil Gen 6 Smartwatches are supposed to be waterproof up to a depth of 50 meters. The Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches are available with a 42 or 44 millimeter wide case depending on the model, and different designs for men and women are also offered.

For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 (1.2-inch Super AMOLED display) and Galaxy Watch4 Classic (1.36 inches) come with a resolution of 396 x 396 and 450 x 450 pixels, respectively.

Battery life and sensors

Fossil specifies the battery life at 24 hours. However, there is also supposed to be an extremely power-saving mode, with which the watches should last several days. And if the smartwatch does run out of juice, it is fully charged again within just one hour – after 30 minutes on the mains, 80 percent of the capacity is already available.

On the inside of the new Fossil smartwatches, there is once again room for a variety of sensors that measure, for example, various activity targets, steps, sleep, heart rate, cardio level and spO2 values for oxygen saturation of the blood. Furthermore, additional running distance data can be recorded in the activity mode with GPS.

Which Wear OS version will be available at launch is currently unknown. Whether Fossil will rely on Wear OS 3.0 for the 6th generation, as is the case with the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 models, remains to be seen.

Prices and Availability

The Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches are expected to be available in Germany from September 27, 2021, hitting exactly one month after the Samsung watches. In terms of price, the watches have an RRP of 299 euros or 329 euros, depending on the model. Three variants each for men and women with leather, fabric or metal straps will be offered at launch.
