GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super BTF: ASUS supplies graphics card without power cable

Modern graphics cards are pretty big and heavy lumpers. And they need their own GPU power cable to really be able to call up the enormous performance. ASUS has now eliminated at least the latter with its new graphics card: the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BTF White OC Edition does not need a power cable at all – but there is a huge catch.

ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BTF White OC Edition available

ASUS has launched a new variant of the NVDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super under the TUF Gaming label, which differs from most other GPUs not only due to its all-white design. The model goes by the name ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BTF White OC Edition.

The new graphics card uses an innovative PCIe high-power connector that allows it to supply the GPU with up to 600 watts of power without the need for a separate power cable. According to NVIDIA, the RTX 4070 Ti Super should not consume more than 285 watts, but a power supply unit with at least 750 watts is required.

The PCIe 4.0 x16 connector has additional pins that the GPU can use to draw power from the power supply unit.

ASUS wants to make a separate 16-pin power cable superfluous and at the same time simplify the setup and cable management of a gaming PC. As well as providing a tidier look.

Only with corresponding mainboards

However, there is one big catch: the graphics card is only compatible with corresponding BTF mainboards from ASUS that offer a suitable PCIe High Power connection.

There are currently only three suitable boards, such as the TUF GAMING Z790-BTF WIFI, which is one of the more expensive Z790 mainboards with an RRP of 349.00 euros – but is still not out of line in terms of price.

The “BTF” system has not yet arrived in the AMD ecosystem. It remains to be seen whether suitable boards and graphics cards will follow. ASUS calls the whole thing the “BTF Alliance” and provides additional details on its own website.

The features of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BTF White OC Edition

Incidentally, the “BTF” in the new products from TUF Gaming stands for “Back to (the) Future” and is intended to herald a new era for all PC gamers – precisely by dispensing with a graphics card power cable.

The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BTF White OC Edition is the first non-mainboard product to appear in this series.

Compared to the normal RTX 4070 Ti Super, ASUS TUF Gaming offers higher clock rates. Up to 2,640 MHz is possible in normal mode and 2,670 MHz in OC mode. At least a little more than the NVIDIA specifications, which state a maximum of 2,610 MHz.

There is also 16 GB DDR6X VRAM and a 3.25-slot housing. The GPU measures 305 x 138 x 65 mm, has three large axial fans with up to 21 percent more airflow and AURA SYNC-capable RGB lighting.

In terms of connections, the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BTF White OC Edition relies on three DisplayPort 1.4a ports and two HDMI 2.1a ports. Otherwise, the GPU should be particularly robust and durable thanks to a metal exoskeleton and military-grade capacitors. However, a graphics card holder is still included in the scope of delivery.

Price and availability

The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER BTF White OC Edition is now available in stores, although availability is not yet widespread.

Caseking, among others, currently lists the graphics card at a price of €1,029.00, making it around €200 more expensive than the cheaper versions of the RTX 4070 Ti Super GPUs.
