Gigaset GS5 Lite: Smartphone from Germany comes with exchangeable battery

The new Gigaset GS5 Lite smartphone brings back a feature that the younger generation probably does not even know anymore. The manufacturer’s latest “Made in Germany” device comes up with a bright and large HD display and has an enduring exchangeable battery that can be replaced quickly and easily when needed. The large GS5 could already convince us during the test.

Gigaset GS5 Lite in detail

The new Gigaset GS5 Lite has a few things in common with the manufacturer’s GS5. Here, you rely on a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display (resolution: 2,340 x 1,080 pixels) with V-Notch, which is supposed to be easy to read even in direct sunlight.

It is covered with scratch-resistant and dirt-repellent 2.5D glass, which makes it safe for outdoor use as well. The contrast ratio is 1,500:1, and the typical brightness is 450 cd/m². There is also a notification LED, which is rarely found nowadays.

The CPU is the MediaTek Helio G85 with eight cores that achieves a clock rate of up to 2.0 GHz. It is supported by 4 GB of working memory and 64 GB of system memory, whereby the latter can be expanded by up to 512 GB via microSD card.

Charging is done via USB Type-C. A 3.5 mm jack is also available for connecting headphones. NFC and Bluetooth 5.0 are also on board, but the GS5 Lite supports LTE (4G) at most.

Large, replaceable battery

The built-in battery of the Gigaset GS5 Lite offers a capacity of 4,500 mAh. The manufacturer promises up to 30 hours of talk time in the 3G network and 250 hours of standby time with a SIM card.

The special feature: The exchangeable battery can be easily replaced. If you run out of juice on a longer trip or at a long party, you can simply insert an optionally available second battery and continue using the smartphone. The replacement is done in a matter of seconds with just a few simple steps.

The smartphone is unlocked via the fingerprint scanner on the back or via facial recognition. In terms of cameras, the GS5 Lite relies on a rear-facing main camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels including LED flash and a variable aperture of f/1.8 and f/2.2.
