Gigaset Plug 2.0: Smart power socket presented

We really only know Gigaset for its landline phones and smartphones (Gigaset GS5 in review), which proudly bear the “Made in Germany” seal and still regularly score with an impressive value for money. However, the German-based company has also been active on the smart home market for quite some time. And now this is getting another addition. The Gigaset Plug 2.0 is a smart power outlet designed to make your home a bit more comfortable.

New family member in the Gigaset smart home system

The Gigaset smart home system now includes motion sensors, alarms, smoke detectors, doorbells, water sensors and surveillance cameras. All of the manufacturer’s smart devices are united not only by convenient control. On top of that, they are supposed to provide more security in your own four walls.

Gigaset is now expanding its range of smart household helpers with its Plug 2.0. Thanks to its common dimensions of 60 cm x 60 cm x 85 cm, the smart power outlet is said to be able to fit into any standard power socket. Once plugged in, it becomes smart right away. What does that mean exactly? In addition to the control option via app, which enables convenient switching on and off via smartphone, for example, other benefits are also said to result from this.

For example, it should also be possible to keep an eye on the power socket’s consumption, which can be quite an advantage, especially for resource-hungry devices such as a TV. Especially in times of rising energy prices, this feature should certainly appeal.

Gigaset smart home base is a prerequisite

Although the smart socket in itself already has a price that is not to be scoffed at, it is not standalone. Rather, you need the “Gigaset Smart Home Basis” to get it going. Once set up, by the way, you should not only be able to control the outlet via app. Of course, Gigaset promises a practical voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant on top of that.

Price and availability

If you want to make your own power outlet a bit smarter in the most uncomplicated way possible, the Gigaset Plug 2.0 will certainly provide you with a practical opportunity. You can secure the smart outlet right now at an MSRP of 49.99 euros.
