Google has rolled out a software update for Google TV in the USA. On board is a new function that many users have been looking forward to for a long time.
Google TV now offers “Find my Remote”
Some remote controls seem to be cursed. After all, they are always nowhere to be found when the warm popcorn is already on the coffee table and you finally want to start the long-awaited movie night. This problem will soon no longer exist for Google TV users. With “Find my Remote”, the tech company has established a completely new feature.
And it did so in secret. After all, according to a report by AFTV News, users only discovered the new function a few days ago on a Google TV 4K Pro streaming box from the manufacturer Onn. To use “Find my Remote”, all you have to do is press a button on the streaming device. Now the remote control not only responds with an acoustic signal. It should also light up for half a minute.
Feature will probably not remain Onn-exclusive
In view of the positive feedback, Google will of course also offer the new feature to other devices with Google TV. And that was probably also the original plan. After all, the function is one of the new features that Android 14 brings to streaming devices. The tech company has not yet officially announced that “Find my Remote” will be coming to other devices.
However, Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority has discovered clues in the Android 14 code that confirm this. Accordingly, we can probably assume that other devices with Google TV will also offer this practical function. Of course, only devices that also have a remote control with a speaker and, if possible, a light will be considered.
Google therefore seems to have a small but nice treat up its sleeve for Google TV users that will make life easier. While US users can already enjoy it, we still have to wait for the update here in Germany. However, if you have a compatible device, you will no longer have to worry about losing your remote control.
