A fast and lightweight SSD to take with you and up to 2 terabytes of storage, that’s the promise of the new Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS series that the storage pros launched today. The portable SSD combines the features of the in-house Exceria Plus NVMe SSD with a rugged case to benefit from the fast storage on the go.
What’s inside the Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS Portable
Kioxia’s high-end SSD (our review) is now fit for outdoor use. With the Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS Portable series, the manufacturer presents a portable, external SSD hard drive for on the go.
The EXCERIA PLUS Portable SSD series uses BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and offers a range of storage capacities with 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB. With a maximum sequential read speed of 1,050 MB/s, the new series features a USB Type-C connector with a USB 3.2 Gen2 interface that enables fast transfer of 4K videos and high-resolution photos.
The EXCERIA PLUS Portable SSDs features a rugged aluminum enclosure that enables effective heat dissipation during heavy workloads. Thanks to the MIL-STD drop test, the SSD’s extra rugged features have already been confirmed. Users can also utilize Kioxia’s SSD management utility for password protection to safeguard valuable data.
Practical: The manufacturer includes both a USB Type-C to Type-A cable and a Type-C to Type-C cable with the Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS Portable to ensure that the drive works with both current and older systems.
The overall dimensions of the portable SSD are 105 x 45 x 14.7 mm (L x W x H), which is why the external hard drive easily fits into any backpack or bag. In addition, the manufacturer offers a 3-year warranty on the SSD series.
Prices and availability
The manufacturer has not yet commented on the prices and availability of the Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS Portable SSD series. However, all three models should still be available in stores in November 2021.
