MeganeX: VR headset comes with 5.2K resolution and micro OLED displays
Shiftall has introduced MeganeX, a new and particularly lightweight VR headset that aims to score with a high resolution, strong displays and a compatibility with SteamVR.
MeganeX: The new VR headset in detail
In terms of compact size, the MeganeX is more reminiscent of AR headsets, weighing in at just 320 grams without cables. It is offered as a consumer and a business version and scores with a strong technology.
According to the manufacturer, two 1.3-inch micro OLED displays are used, which have a resolution of 2,560 x 2,560 pixels, so a total resolution of 5.2K is achieved. That would be more than the new HTC Vive XR Elite offers, for example. In addition, the displays are capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors and thus support the HDR 10-bit color palette.
The pupil distance can be adjusted between 56 mm and 72 mm, but the diopters apparently cannot be adjusted. This is reserved for the business version, as adjustments between 0D and -7D are possible. The manufacturer also does not provide any information on the frame rate.
Strong Technology
From a technical perspective, the MeganeX draws on the Snapdragon XR1 platform and supports 6DoF tracking with inside-out tracking or with Lighthouse base stations. SteamVR is also supported by the VR headset, which should make for compelling gaming fun with the displays.
The VR headset features built-in speakers and a 3.5mm jack for connecting to a headset or headphones, as well as two built-in microphones.
The MeganeX is connected to the PC via DiyplayPort and USB 2.0. There is a USB-C port on the headset itself, but the manufacturer also supplies a suitable converter box. Differences to the Business Edition also lie in the attachment, because while the normal model finds support on the forehead and with a neckband, the Business Edition rests on the nose.

The MeganeX VR headset is expected to be available in March or April 2023, according to the manufacturer. The regular variant will start at an MSRP of $1,699. Information on the release and prices in Europe is currently not yet available. The official website also only provides the specifications so far.
