Microsoft Word: “Paste” feature is being revised

If you spend your working day at your desk, 99% of the time you can’t avoid the Word “Paste” function. After all, this feature speeds up the workflow immensely. However, it was apparently not good enough for Microsoft. Now the tech company has reworked the helpful function a little to offer its users even more convenience.

Microsoft Word makes pasting easier

Did you know that pasting is the most popular and most used feature of Microsoft’s writing program? Don’t you think so? Then pay attention to how often you use this function the next time you use it. The US company has now adapted the feature to make work easier, according to the company’s own blog.

In doing so, Microsoft has specifically addressed a problem that many users will no doubt be familiar with. Specifically, it is about the fact that copying and pasting content from other documents is lightning fast. However, the subsequent adjustment of the sometimes confusing formatting, which differs from the original text, is time-consuming.

Thanks to the update, it is now not just the text from another document that can be copied. Formatting and lists are also adopted when inserting into the Word document. The writing program already offers this option with the “Keep source formatting” setting. However, this is obviously not really effective.

In fact, the tech company has no longer kept the “Merge formatting” setting as an optional setting option. Instead, this is now the default setting. This is quickly noticeable in everyday use. For example, when copying and then pasting, all formatting from the original text is now pasted into Word.

New feature not for everyone

If you want to make personal settings for the new paste feature in Microsoft Word, you can do this in the advanced settings. According to a report by heise online, you have to select the sub-item “Cut, copy and paste”. Meanwhile, anyone using Word on MacOS or the web version of the writing program will be left out in the cold. For the time being, the new feature is only available for Microsoft Word on the in-house Microsoft OS.
