Microsoft Xbox Series X soon also without drive

As part of a Microsoft showcase, the tech company not only announced new games. The company also wants to offer the Xbox in new versions. The Xbox Series X, for example, will have a version without a drive.

Xbox Series X gets new version

June is known to be the month of big announcements in the gaming industry. As E3 in Los Angeles has been canceled this year, the gaming giants have announced new products on their own. Microsoft was no exception. In addition to new games, the company also had something new to announce for its Xbox. The Xbox Series X will soon no longer only be available in black.

Microsoft also wants to offer its flagship in white. However, the difference in the new version is not just about the color scheme. Microsoft is also dispensing with its own drive. We already know this from Sony and the PS5 in the Digital Edition. Until now, if you wanted an Xbox without a drive, you had to go for the Series S.

However, this also meant weaker hardware, which meant that the gaming experience could not keep up with the significantly more powerful Xbox Series X. Apart from the color and missing drive, there are no other differences to the version with drive. However, we can assume that the drive-less design will have a positive influence on the pricing.

For example, the RRP of both versions of the PS5 differs by a whopping 100 euros. If the previous 1 TB of memory is not enough for you, you should take a look at the new Special Edition of the Xbox Series X. This not only comes in a stylish starry-eyed look and features smaller eye-catchers in Xbox green. In addition to the visual customization, it also has twice the storage with 2 TB.

Xbox Series S offers more memory

However, the new Xbox Series X All-Digital does not mean the demise of the popular Xbox Series S. Microsoft is by no means scrapping its “Xbox Light”. Instead, it is undergoing a major model upgrade and refreshing the memory. The weaker Xbox is currently available without a drive and with 500 GB of memory. In the refreshed version, Microsoft is doubling the memory to 1 TB.

Prices and availability

Microsoft is refreshing its Xbox range and should be right on the money. In particular, the new Xbox Series X without a drive should hit the mark given the huge success of the Microsoft Gamepass. The company has not yet commented on the prices of the new models. However, we already know that they should be on store shelves in time for the Christmas season. Whether this only applies to the USA or also to Europe is still unknown.
