MSI MAG Trident S 5M: Chic PC for cloud gaming

If MSI has its way, cloud gaming is the future. Accordingly, the manufacturer of high-quality gaming hardware has now introduced a customized system that is supposed to combine the comfort of a gaming console with the freedoms of a PC – The MSI MAG Trident S 5M.

Gaming of the future

Higher further faster? In terms of gaming, this has been the number one agenda for many years. Thus, games became more and more impressive, especially in terms of graphics. But not least the growing trend towards indie titles makes it clear that the market is almost oversaturated with graphic bombs. Accordingly, not too much has been happening graphically lately. Have we reached the end of the line? Absolutely not. Because even if graphics no longer play a major role, the increasingly popular hobby of video games is constantly evolving, especially in terms of user-friendliness.

What has been true for consoles for a long time is apparently becoming increasingly important for PCs as well. At least, manufacturers are increasingly focusing on PCs that can easily be placed in the living room as a console alternative due to their size and chic design. It is partly astonishing how small the graphics wonders are. What sometimes seems like witchcraft is due to so-called cloud gaming. Here, a very good internet connection can make up for the lack of high-end GPU and CPU.

MSI has now introduced another representative of cloud gaming solutions with the MAG Trident S 5M. The console-like desktop PC should fit wonderfully into many living rooms thanks to its chic but discreet look. MSI offers two programs ex-works for the MAG Trident S 5M, which makes a full hard drive or full shelves virtually unnecessary. With the help of the MSI App Player and the MSI Game Stadium, you can play games from the Google Play Store as well as games from the extensive Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library. All of this is supposed to be possible conveniently via the cloud. On top of that, you should be able to access your own Steam library.

Wolf in sheep’s clothing

Even though the MSI MAG Trident S 5M may look unimpressive, there is a lot of power slumbering under its hood. The heart of the Android-based system is an AMD Ryzen 5700G APU. Thanks to its so-called “FidelityFX Super Resolution Technology”, the processor is supposed to be able to more than double the frames per second on its own. Since MSI wants to equip its MAG Trident S 5M with suitable interfaces (2x PCIe Gen3, 1x 2.5 inch hard drive), classic storage can also be optionally provided. Furthermore, the system offers an HDMI 2.0 output, DisplayPort 1.4 and a VGA-out. You can even charge your controller or smartphone via the USB-C port, which has an output power of 15 watts. You can get the MSI MAG Trident S 5M for an MSRP starting at 999.00 Euro.
