New Activision patent to adapt games to available time

Activision has applied for an exciting new patent that should be of particular interest to those who have little time to play. The patent should make it possible for a title to automatically adjust cutscenes or the number of enemies according to how much time you have available.

Activision with a new gaming patent

Activision has filed an exciting patent for the gaming sector, entitled “Systems and Methods for the Real-Time Customization of Video Game Content Based on Player Data”. This was reported bythe World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Specifically, the patent is intended to make it possible to adapt the gaming experience in computer games so that a title adjusts to the amount of time that can be spared for playing.

The feature is intended to adapt elements such as cutscenes, level structure or the number of opponents in real time based on the remaining playing time previously set by players. A mammoth role-playing game like Baldur’s Gate 3, with 100 hours more playing time, would thus also be accessible to those who have little time to play.

After the specified time has elapsed, the game continues or additional game scenes can be selected and customized based on the player’s new input. The Activision patent is intended to offer all players a comparable gaming experience, even if they only have one or two hours to play.

However, it is still unclear when and in which games the patent will be used and whether it will be limited exclusively to Activision titles such as Call of Duty and the like.
