The Austrian cooler specialist Noctua recently announced that three CPU coolers from the company will be available in black with immediate effect. According to Roland Mossig, “Noctua soldered the cooling fins to the heatpipes in order to guarantee an optimal performance level over a period of many years”. The problem is that this production process is difficult to combine with coatings.
However, the Noctua has now succeeded in developing a coating material and a production process that combines the usual good thermal properties with the appearance desired by many customers. For the time being, the range of black CPU coolers is limited to the double tower Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black (99.90 Euro), the compact single tower Noctua NH-U12S Chromax Black (69,90 Euro) and the Top-Blower Noctua NH-L9i Chromax Black (49,90 Euro).
Except for the coating, the Chromax Black models are identical to the beige standard models. The first 5.000 coolers of the D15 and U12S are delivered as “Linus Tech Tips Edition“. In addition to the black anti-vibration pad in the special edition, they also contain an orange anti-vibration pad.
