Nuki: New app update for Smart Lock brings new features

Manufacturer Nuki, known for its smart door locks, has released a new update of its own app. Among other things, this brings improvements for the popular Auto Unlock option and enables integration into smart home systems via MQTT.

Nuki app update released

One of the most popular features of Nuki smart locks is the automatic door opening, called Auto Unlock. This has been somewhat hidden in the Nuki app so far, but that changes with the latest app update.

Within the settings, Auto Unlock now gets its own menu item that allows setting the functions and shows an illustrated explanation of the feature.

If a door lock in the house is unlocked using Auto Unlock, the new option “Consider nearby devices” deactivates automatic door opening on other smart locks in the same house. This allows Auto Unlock to be used on two or more doors.

Smart home integration using MQTT

Also new is the possibility to integrate the smart door locks Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 and Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 Pro into other smart home solutions using MQTT. MQTT interfaces are very popular for local smart home systems, which are usually operated on their own servers, because MQTT works in a particularly power-saving way and is considered to be extremely reliable.

Thanks to the MQTT API, Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 and Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 Pro can be easily integrated into well-known systems like Loxone, openHAB and HomeAssistant. All new features are part of the free app update of the Nuki app, which is available for download in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
