Nuki presents Smart Lock 3.0 and Smart Lock 3.0 Pro

The security experts from Nuki have presented the latest generation of their smart door lock. Smart Lock 3.0 and Smart Lock 3.0 Pro are joined by practical accessories.

Presentation in Graz

In the field of smart door locks, Nuki has been considered one of the most popular manufacturers for several years. Within Europe, the company is even the market leader. Of course, Nuki does not want to jeopardize this dominant market position and accordingly follows up with new products. Along with the two new door locks Smart Lock 3.0 and Smart Lock 3.0 Pro, there is also an external door sensor and a universal cylinder.

Nuki wants to make doors smarter

The company can look back on a young but successful history. For example, Nuki has already been able to equip 200,000 doors in Europe with smart door locks. And the trend is rising. Here, of course, the manufacturer benefits from the growing trend of smart homes. But the company does not want to be satisfied yet. Martin Pansy, CEO and co-founder of Nuki Home Solutions, explains:

Currently, only around 1.5 percent of house and apartment doors in Europe are smart. But we are convinced that smart technology improves everyday life in the long term and makes it more convenient. So to ensure that the share of smart door locks continues to grow rapidly, we now offer the Nuki Smart Lock in two versions.

Changes in the third generation

With the new door locks, Nuki is already launching the third generation of their smart locks. But what changes from the two previously released smart locks (our review)? Before we clarify, let’s start with the positive similarities. Like their predecessors, the next generation products can be attached to almost any door lock. Annoying drilling is usually not necessary here. The Smart Lock 3.0 operation is also similarly uncomplicated.

Once again, you control the Smart Lock using the round button on the knob. Nuki promises that this should now have a more comfortable pressure point. Nuki also wants to optimize the lock’s gearbox. This is now also supposed to work together with the well-known powerful drive, but it is supposed to be much quieter in the third generation. We are curious whether this promise is kept.

Differences between standard and Pro version

Of course, the name differences between Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 and Smart Lock 3.0 Pro do not come by chance. While the conventional version is supposed to be a low-priced entry into the world of smart door locks, you get a comprehensive overall package with the Pro version. However, the differences can already be seen in the lock itself. While the Smart Lock 3.0 comes with a plastic knob in white, Nuki gives its Pro version a noble aluminum knob.

But not only visually the Pro version can do more. The range of functions is also larger. While you need an additional Nuki Bridge to use network functions with the conventional Smart Lock 3.0, the Pro version comes with integrated WLAN. You do not need an additional bridge here. You also need to purchase the Nuki Power Pack for the standard version, which provides plenty of battery power. It is included in the Pro version. Nuki itself is especially convinced about its network functions. Martin Pansy says about this:

We at Nuki are convinced that smart technology becomes even more powerful in combination with other strong brands. Therefore, Smart Lock 3.0 Pro and the Smart Lock 3.0 are of course already compatible at launch with a variety of renowned smart home systems such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, IFTT and many more.

.
For the more in scope with the Smart Lock 3.0 Pro, Nuki of course also charges a premium. While the standard version has an MSRP of 149 euros, the manufacturer charges 249 euros for its Pro version. However, those who want to buy the bridge and power pack anyway should seriously consider the Pro variant.

Practical accessories for the Nuki Smart Lock 3.0

In addition to the new door lock, the company has also announced new accessories from the Nuki family. The external door sensor presented is said to cost 39 euros and registers whether the door is closed or open. However, those who want this exciting security feature will also have to reach for the latest generation of smart locks. There is no compatibility with older door locks. With the presented universal cylinder, Nuki is obviously targeting house residents with older door locks. It has the important emergency and danger function, which older locks usually do not have. For the universal cylinder, Nuki wants to call an MSRP of 79 euros.

Smart Lock 3.0 upgrade program for existing customers

Should you already own a Smart Lock from Nuki, you might be annoyed by the new feature set of the third generation. In this case, the manufacturer’s new upgrade program might be something for you. If you decide to upgrade to the Smart Lock 3.0 Pro, you will get the newly introduced external door sensor for free. Since you can keep your old lock, you can secure two doors with one Smart Lock.
