Peacock: New streaming service launches in Germany

NBC Universal’s U.S. streaming service Peacock officially launched in Germany on January 25, entering the German market as a competitor to Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video. Peacock is offered in this country as part of Sky’s pay-TV offering.

Peacock available in Germany

NBC Universal’s Peacock streaming service launched in Germany on January 25, 2022. Unlike Netflix and Co, however, the provider is not available individually, but will be integrated into the offer of Sky.

However, customers of the pay TV service can access Peacock content at no additional cost. This applies to Sky Q and Sky Ticket subscriptions in Germany and Sky X subscriptions in Austria with the Entertainment, Entertainment Plus and Ultimate TV packages booked. Content can also be accessed on the go via Sky Go.

Another difference to the main streaming providers in Germany: Peacock is ad-financed. Streamed content is therefore interrupted by advertising. After the UK and Ireland in November 2021, Germany is the next European country where the service will launch.

What content is available on Peacock?

In the announcement, the providers speak loftily of the “best content from NBCUniversal and beyond.” Now and in the coming months, many Peacock-exclusive movies and series are slated to launch, including current series “Saved by the Bell,” “Rutherford Falls” and “Girls5eva,” with “The Girl in the Woods” or “Bel-Air” coming soon.

Also included are all seasons of hit series such as “The Office,” “Monk,” “30 Rock,” “Psych,” “Downton Abbey” and many more. Film highlights include “American Pie 2,” “Back to the Future 3,” “The Green Mile,” “Gladiator” and many more.

In the coming months, the service will also be launched on Sky platforms in Switzerland and Italy.
