The streaming provider Amazon Prime Video is getting a new design starting this week. Initially, smart TV devices and the Android app will enjoy the new user interface. Later, the Amazon Prime Video redesign will be available on all platforms, including iOS.
Amazon Prime Video redesign for more clarity
The new Amazon Prime Video redesign is intended to make the streaming service noticeably easier to use. First, he said, it’s the turn of networked living room devices such as the company’s own Fire TV devices and the Android app, on which users will be able to enjoy the new user interface this week.
Those who use the service in the browser or on iOS, on the other hand, will have to wait a little longer. Here, the new design will be released at an unspecified later date. The main aim of the redesign is to make it easier for customers to find content.
To this end, the main navigation bar will be fundamentally changed. From now on, the vertical bar on the left edge will show menu items for the search, the main menu, the store or the option to switch profiles. The overview is also divided into main pages, which also contain several subpages. For example, as a subdivision for sports, series or movies.
In addition, the search should be faster and more intuitive. In the future, suggestions will be displayed live as you type; Prime Video has always been a bit slower than Netflix or Disney+. In addition, for example, content can be displayed directly in 4K UHD resolution.
Carousels offer more clarity
In a carousel, you can also see the current Prime Top 10 with the currently most popular series and content. This should help you find popular content more quickly in the Amazon Prime Video redesign.
A new Live TV page also provides you with a program guide, while content that needs to be purchased is now better identified by a yellow shopping bag icon. Content that is already included in the subscription will henceforth get a blue checkmark as an indicator.
Freevee already integrated in the USA
In the left bar, there is also an item called “Free” under which the Freevee function is presumably located. However, this entry will be missing in Germany for the time being, as the free offer for ad-supported content (formerly IMDb TV) is not scheduled to launch in this country until later in 2022.
With the Amazon Prime Video redesign, the streaming provider is arming itself against the rapidly growing offerings of the competition. For example, Paramount+ is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2022 and is also available in the U.S. via Amazon Prime Video. AMC+, on the other hand, will also launch as an independent service at the end of 2022.
