Paramount+: New streaming service launches in the second half of 2022

Netflix, Disney+ and others are getting competition. Paramount+, a new streaming service, will launch in Germany in the second half of 2022. The series Star Trek: Discovery, which only recently disappeared from Netflix’s catalog, is one of the newcomers – and now we know why.

In the second half of 2022, Paramount+ will also be available in Germany. The streaming service launched in the U.S. back in 2014 as CBS All Access and was renamed last year.

In this country, Paramount+ will also be offered via Sky (in the Cinema package), or also individually over time. According to the provider, the cooperation with Sky is merely for cost reasons and will increase the reach of its own service.

Prices to the German offer one does not make so far. In the USA, there are two Paramount+ subscriptions: for around five dollars per month with advertising and for around ten euros per month without advertising. In Germany, however, only the ad-free variant is to be offered.

What does the Paramount+ subscription offer?

The Paramount+ subscription includes many current films and classics from Hollywood studio Paramount, as well as TV series from broadcasters Showtime and CBS. In addition to Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, series such as The Stand, Dexter, Paw Patrol and The Twilight Zone are also included.

At least in the U.S., all Paramound movies will only appear on its own streaming service after they run in theaters starting in 2024. Whether this will also apply to Germany is currently unclear.

In March 2022, the video game adaptation Halo, among others, will start as a series on Sky, which will be shown in the U.S. via Paramount+. A second season has already been ordered, which will then presumably also be shown here in Germany on the new streaming service.
