Amazon Fire 7 Tablet Gets More Storage and Performance

Amazon has introduced a new version of the cheap Fire Tablet series, which is now available from 55 Euro. Compared to its predecessor, the devices offer a better webcam, a faster processor and more memory capacity. Delivery in Germany will start on 6 June, pre-orders are already possible.

The tablets will continue to be sold in a version with “special offers”, which is 15 euros cheaper. Users must accept advertising from Amazon on the tablet.

Version of the tablet Price
16 GByte with special offers 55 Euro
16 GByte without special offers 70 Euro
32 GByte with special offers 65 Euro
32 GByte without special offers 80 Euro

Amazon did not reveal any details about the installed hardware. The company only speaks of a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. So far Amazon has installed a MediaTek MT8127B, which also has four cores (Cortex-A7) with up to 1.3 GHz.

The front camera, which previously only had VGA resolution, now has 2 megapixels resolution (720p) and is therefore suitable for video chats or selfies. The main camera on the back has the same resolution unchanged. The display is also identical to the predecessor and offers 1,024 x 600 pixels.

Unfortunately not all changes are positive. The maximum battery life of the new generation is about one hour shorter and, according to Amazon, is “up to seven hours reading, listening to music, watching episodes or movies and surfing the Internet”.

The language assistant Alexa can now also be used on call with the Fire Tablet without having to be activated on the device beforehand.
