New streaming service AMC+ comes to Germany

Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Last Peacock: The market for streaming services in Germany continues to grow. Now the US TV broadcaster AMC is also bringing its own solution to Germany. AMC+ is home to, among other things, the now huge The Walking Dead universe.

AMC+: Germany launch of The Walking Dead channel

AMC+ is coming to Germany, and as early as the first quarter of 2023, Levente Málnay, EVP at AMC Networks International, confirmed at NEM 2022 in Dubrovnik, according to Broadband TV News. Spain is apparently serving as the forerunner, where the new streaming service in provider Orange Spain’s portfolio will initially launch Europe-exclusively on Orange TV‘s subscription.

The German website of the streaming service is already online, but still shows an “Error 404” error message. So far, the provider has only been available in the USA, Canada and Australia. Central and Eastern Europe are to be added in early 2023.

AMC+ can be used individually, but is also available as a Prime Video or Apple TV channel in the countries available so far. In addition, dedicated apps are available for Android, iOS and iPadOS.

What does the subscription cost?

Prices for the streaming service vary depending on the booking platform chosen. In the US, between 6.99 US dollars and 8.99 US dollars are called monthly. The latter price applies when subscribing via the AMC+ homepage.

An annual membership is also available here, which costs $83.88 per year. Interested parties can try out the service once for seven days free of charge.

What series and movies does AMC+ offer?

AMC+ focuses primarily on TV series and movies of the channel AMC, but also offers some very good in-house productions. Among the best-known series are, for example:

  • The Walking Dead
  • Mad Men
  • Portlandia
  • Gangs of London
  • Orphan Black
  • Better Call Saul

In addition, at least in the U.S., there is also content from the TV channels BBC America, IFC and Sundance TV. Which content AMC+ will offer in Germany is currently still unclear.

With series like Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead, the US broadcaster AMC has made a name for itself in this country. And with the spin-off series from the TWD universe, they still have some hot irons in the fire for the coming year, making the German launch of AMC+ exciting. Whether they can hold their own against big names like Netflix and others, however, remains to be seen.
