Netflix price in Germany now more expensive again

Shortly after Spotify announced a price increase (we reported), VOD top dog Netflix is now following suit. However, the new Netflix price also applies to Germany with immediate effect. The streaming service had already tightened the price screw last fall.

Netflix price increases again in Germany

It was only last October that Netflix increased the cost of a subscription to its own streaming service in Germany, after the costs were reduced in some countries at the beginning of 2023. Now the Netflix price in Germany is going up again and, according to the official website, with immediate effect.

Specifically, the fees for almost all tariffs are rising by up to 2 euros per month. Even the basic plan, which can no longer be rebooked, is not exempt.

Customers on the basic plan with 720p streaming will now have to pay a fee of EUR 9.99 per month (previously EUR 7.99). The standard subscription without advertising in 1080p for two devices now costs 13.99 euros (previously 12.99 euros), while the premium subscription with 4K, HDR and 3D audio now costs a whopping 19.99 euros per month. Previously, the monthly price was 17.99 euros.

Netflix advertising subscription retains price

Only the prices for the advertising subscription, which Netflix introduced in October 2022, remain untouched by the price increase. The standard subscription with advertising, as it is called, will remain at a monthly price of 4.99 euros.

It supports streaming on two devices simultaneously and allows downloads on two devices. Streaming is possible in full HD resolution, while streamed films and series have to live with ads.

In contrast to other subscription levels, no additional membership seats can be booked here. However, this is possible with the Standard and Premium tariffs for an additional 4.99 euros per month.

The gap between standard and commercial subscriptions is therefore widening again with the latest Netflix price increase. Apparently, the company is trying to attract new members to the ad-financed model, which is probably the most profitable option for the company.
