Elgato Cam Link Pro: Practical addition for streamers

Whether you’re streaming as a hobbyist or professionally, a basic requirement is a reliable camera. The streaming experts at Elgato have now launched their Cam Link Pro, a new card that allows you to control four different cameras at the same time. This makes it easy to change camera perspectives during the stream. We take a closer look at the card.

The perfect addition for streamers

Anyone who likes to stream will sooner or later find themselves in a situation where they want another camera. Streaming expert Elgato is aware of this and has addressed the issue with its latest addition to the market. The Cam Link Pro lets you connect four different cameras at once via HDMI port. The company is thus expanding its product range of camera hardware. Thus, Elgato already scored with its practical Cam Link 4K. The stick is used for the practical transfer of camera images to the PC.

As practical as the utility of the new Cam Link Pro should be, it’s easy to install. All you need is a free PCIe slot. Here you simply install the card. Apart from the suitable interface, other requirements must also be met. The card also requires a sufficiently strong processor and a suitable graphics card. The PC should have at least an Intel i7-6000 series or an AMD Ryzen 7 as CPU. As a GPU, the card requires at least a GeForce from the GTX-1000 series. Windows 10 in the 64-bit version should also be on board your PC.

Up to 1,440p/60 FPS or 4K/30 FPS

The technical specs of the card make it clear that Elgato has launched an exciting gadget for streamers here. For example, the card is said to make resolutions of max 1,440p at 60 FPS or max 4K at 30 FPS possible on each of its four inputs. With the help of the practical Multiview software, it should also be possible to combine several camera sources. The compatibility with Elgato’s Stream Deck and the Multi app also proves to be extremely practical. In the course of this, user-friendly operation is guaranteed.

Many a gaming streamer will probably ask themselves what the point of having different camera angles is in the first place. The question is quite justified, since gaming broadcasts usually only show the game and the face of the streamer. However, especially in Corona times, it has become clear that streaming is gaining ground outside of gaming as well.

For example, talk shows, concerts and other entertaining activities can be streamed. Here, different camera perspectives are now proving to be a must in order to leave a professional impression. With the Cam Link Pro, switching between and working with different cameras should be as straightforward as possible.

Price and availability

Of course, the Cam Link Pro is only of any use if it can communicate with other camera manufacturers at all. According to the manufacturer, it works with big names like Nikon, Canon, Sony, FujiFilm and GoPro, among others. The card seems to be proving to be a handy addition to the streaming setup for many streamers. Those interested can pick up the Elgato Cam Link Pro for an MSRP of 349.99 euros.
