Pico Interactive has unveiled a new VR headset and beta program in the consumer segment at Laval Virtual 2022. The standalone headset Pico Neo 3 Link is aimed at end customers and gamers. At launch, there will be a one-time beta program, the feedback from which will be used directly in the development of a new VR headset.
Pico Neo 3 Link unveiled
The new Pico Neo 3 Link is a high-resolution standalone VR headset that relies on a 5.5-inch display along with a resolution of 3,664 x 1,920 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 773 ppi. The refresh rate of 90 Hz should also appeal to VR enthusiasts and gamers.
The high-resolution VR headset supports inside-out tracking via four integrated, high-precision wide-angle cameras with freedom of movement in six degrees of freedom (6DoF tracking) and is capable of accurate positioning even in low-contrast, very dark or very bright environments.
For optimal comfort, the adjustable interpupillary distance (IPD) can be set between 58 and 69 mm. Also offered are a replaceable leatherette pad with anti-fouling coating and two 6DoF controllers with 32 optical tracking sensors.
PC VR solution or standalone headset
The Neo 3 Link basically offers two areas of application. On a VR-ready notebook or desktop PC, the headset can play SteamVR games both wired and wirelessly. Wireless streaming is done via Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 5 and based on an integrated 5300 mAh battery, which allows a playtime of around 3.5 hours.
Alternatively, the head-mounted display can also be connected to the computer via an included DisplayPort cable, or it can function completely independently. The Neo 3 Link uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 platform with Snapdragon 865 SoC, 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In standalone mode, content is provided via the new Pico App Store, which already offers over 200 apps and is regularly expanded.
Market launch comes with unique beta tester program
To coincide with the launch of the Neo 3 Link VR headset, the manufacturer will also be offering a unique beta tester program aimed at VR enthusiasts. After the launch in May 2022, all buyers will be able to submit direct feedback to the manufacturer if they wish.
The results of the users will flow directly into the developers of future VR headsets from Pico Interactive, as well as into the improvement of the Neo 3 Link. Feedback on upgrades to the Pico Store, the Pico user account, and payment, social and other services can be submitted.
