QNAP TS-873AeU: Compact 8-bay rackmount NAS series introduced

Companies that rely on virtualization or VDI applications get a strong and comparatively affordable solution with the new QNAP TS-873AeU series. The 2U rackmount devices have a short installation depth and are equipped with powerful AMD Ryzen processors.

QNAP TS-873AeU Series Unveiled

The new QNAP TS-873AeU series 2U rackmount devices are targeted at businesses looking for a cost-effective and high-performance NAS device. The TS-873AeU and TS-873AeU-RP rely on energy-efficient and powerful AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B processors of the V1000 series with 4-core, 8-thread and 2.2 GHz clock speed.

The series is available in 8-bay models with single and redundant power supplies. The TS-873AeU is said to be best suited for resource-intensive applications and is designed for tasks such as virtual machines, hybrid cloud applications or intensive multi-user access.

Only 11.7 inches deep

The 2U rackmount TS-873AeU series has a shallow depth of just 11.7 inches (297.4 mm), making it up to 38 percent smaller, which makes it an excellent choice for smaller racks, wall-mounted AV rack cabinets and network rack cabinets.

The space this saves can be used for cabling or ventilation, which should come in handy. Designed specifically for flexible use and installation in places such as offices, audiovisual rooms, and for applications such as security surveillance recording, the TS-873AeU series is a great choice for the most demanding users.

It features two 2.5GbE RJ45 LAN ports, with 5GbE connectivity achievable via port trunking. Two M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x 1 slots are also available to enable SSD caching or SSD storage pools for improved performance or Edge TPU for AI image recognition.

Additional NAS capabilities are provided via the PCIe Gen3 x 8 slot, such as when 25/10 GbE network cards, M.2 SSD NVMe cards, or Fibre Channel cards are installed. The 2U rackmount design also supports DDR4 ECC memory up to a maximum of 64 GB, hot-swappable 2.5-inch/3.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s drives, 2 x 2.5 GbE Gigabit RJ45 ports, 2 x M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x 1 slots, 1 x PCIe Gen 3 x 8 slot, 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) ports (2 x Type-A, 2 x Type-C).
