Smart #5: New e-SUV coming at the beginning of 2025

Electric mobility continues to gather pace and Smart is already launching its third all-electric vehicle on the market with the Smart #5. The compact e-SUV aims to win over environmentally conscious drivers and technology enthusiasts alike.

Overview

  • Fully electric compact SUV and the third e-vehicle from Smart.
  • It offers a range of up to 500 kilometers and is equipped with the latest technology.
  • The vehicle is designed to impress both in city traffic and on longer journeys.
  • The market launch is planned for 2024 and the price is expected to be around 45,000 euros.

Smart #5: Design and technology

According to the official announcement, the Smart #5 has a modern, compact design that underlines the vehicle’s urban orientation. Despite its compact dimensions, the E-SUV offers a generous amount of space for passengers and luggage. The sleek lines and minimalist design are typical of the new Smart models and aim to be both aesthetically pleasing and aerodynamically efficient.

According to the manufacturer, the interior of the vehicle features high-quality materials and an advanced infotainment system. At its heart are two 13-inch AMOLED screens. The Mercedes subsidiary specifies a vehicle length of 4.7 meters. This is comparatively long for a Smart. Our colleagues at Golem have worked out that the #5 is almost twice as long as the classic Smart for Two from the 1990s.

Smart #5: 800-volt technology for short charging times

The Smart #5 should not only impress with its design, but also with its technical data. At least with those that are known so far. The battery technology in particular appears to be pleasingly modern. Thanks to 800-volt technology, it should be possible to charge the e-SUV from 10 to 80 percent within 15 minutes.

The Mercedes subsidiary has not yet been able to communicate how far the 100 kWh battery should be able to take the driver with official WLTP figures. So far, the manufacturer can only state just under 740 km according to the Chinese CLTP standard. In practice, we can probably expect around 500 km.

Price and availability

The market launch of the Smart #5 is planned for the first quarter of 2025. The starting price for the e-SUV is not yet known.
