Tesla Cybertruck is now less dangerous for your fingers

Until now, anyone closing the frunk of the Tesla Cybertruck had to be extremely careful with their fingers. After all, they could get trapped if they were in the wrong place. However, the manufacturer now claims to have solved this problem.

The Tesla Cybertruck is anything but a conventional electric car. But despite its modern appearance, the all-electric pickup also has one or two quirks. A questionable choice of material meant that the accelerator pedal no longer automatically returned to its original position. This resulted in a temporary halt to sales. But manufacturer Tesla is responding to its mistakes. The US car manufacturer has now solved another problem. The so-called finger guillotine.

Like every Tesla, the Cybertruck also has a frunk. This is a practical storage compartment at the front of the vehicle. A handbag or rucksack can easily be stowed here. However, you have to be very careful when using the Cybertruck’s mini trunk, as many videos on social media show.

Update solves the problem

You can find numerous videos online in which Cybertruck owners use cucumbers, for example, to illustrate the dangers of the frunk. Of course, this is not intended. Tesla has also installed appropriate sensors in the lid. But apparently these were simply too insensitive until now. But now the US car manufacturer has helped.

An update claims to have significantly improved sensitivity. But the first practical tests are mixed. While some say the problem has been eliminated, others hardly notice any difference. A report from Electrek explains why this is the case. The software for the frunk’s closing behavior is a learning algorithm.

Depending on usage behavior, the flap adjusts its closing force, as a senior engineer from the Cybertruck team confirms. If it fails to close successfully several times, the force is increased. In view of the very different results, however, Tesla will probably have to come up with another update.
