The second generation Lenovo ThinkBook 15 is here!

Starting in November 2020, the new Lenovo ThinkBook 15 2nd generation is scheduled for release.

What does it bring with it?

The ThinkBook can be purchased with either Intel Tiger Lake-U or AMD Ryzen Renoir.

In contrast to its predecessor, Lenovo has taken the office notebook to a whole new level. The Tiger model can be purchased with an Nvidia GeForce MX450 with 2GB GDDR6 graphics card. The notebook’s USB-C ports are designed as Thunderbolt 4 ports and there is an optional Versa Bay, but only in combination with an Intel chip. The inexpensive Lenovo ThinkBook 15 lies between the IdeaPad and ThinkPad L series.

The Thinkbook is 1.9 cm thick and weighs 1.9 kg. It is partly made of aluminum and has a fingerprint sensor integrated at the power button. Features include a maximum memory of 40 GB DDR4-3200 and a combination of a 2.5-inch hard drive and an M.2 PCIe SSD. The notebook’s 1,080p display is non-reflective and 15.6-inch in size. It is equipped with a TN panel as standard and can be equipped with an IPS panel and also a touch screen at extra cost.

Additional extras

The optional Versa Bay is particularly interesting. With the upgrade of the Versa Bay, the notebook has a small drawer on the right side where Bluetooth headphones are hidden. You can’t expect hi-fi from the headphones, but they’ll do for a movie or a video conference. The Thinkbook’s headphones are automatically charged when inserted into the Versa Bay and are connected directly to the notebook when removed. The battery life for the headphones should last about 2 hours.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 15 also has stereo speakers, a webcam and dual microphones. The webcam can also be covered by a privacy shutter.

There are different battery variants available. Either with a 45 Wh or a 60 Wh battery. The Intel version is designed to provide between six and eight hours of battery life, while the Ryzen Renoir version can last up to ten hours. The case has two USB-C ports, one of which supports Thunderbolt 4 on the Intel variant, two USB-A 3.2 ports, HDMI, an SD card reader, AUX and RJ45.

Price

The Lenovo ThinkBook 15 2nd generation with the Intel Tiger Lake, which will be available from November 2020, will be available from 699 euros. The AMD variant will follow until the end of the year and should then be available from 649 Euro.
