Peripheral manufacturer Turtle Beach has unveiled a new edition of its popular gaming headset. The Turtle Beach Recon 200 Gen 2 aims to impress with extensive compatibility, high sound quality and a fair price.
Return of the Recon 200
The Turtle Beach Recon 200 Gen 2 stands out above all for its compatibility and thus strikes a similar note as the Razer Barracuda X (our review). Thanks to a 3.5mm jack connector, the new wired gaming headset is compatible with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and fPC and mobile platforms.
It relies on similar features to its popular predecessor, while expanding on them. These include variable microphone monitoring, glasses-friendly ProSpecs technology, softer memory foam cushions, a new headband with increased stability, and the ability to work in passive mode.
The Recon 200 Gen 2 is powered by 40mm drivers with improved bass boost, which should deliver more detailed sound while supporting spatial surround sound technologies like Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos or DTS Headphone: X1 and Sony 3D Audio.
Wireless operation is said to be possible for up to 12 hours thanks to powerful batteries. At the same time, the batteries can be recharged while the game is running. If the battery runs out in the middle of a game, basic headset functions are provided in a passive mode. Variable Mic Monitoring ensures that players can hear the volume of their voice in the headset and not start getting loud.
