Vivo X100 Ultra: Flagship camera smartphone officially unveiled

With the Vivo X100 Ultra, the manufacturer officially unveiled its new flagship camera smartphone today. It boasts an impressive camera setup with a 200 megapixel telephoto zoom camera and modern features.

The Vivo X100 Ultra in detail

The Vivo X100 Ultra naturally focuses on the cameras, which were once again developed in collaboration with Zeiss. The new smartphone aims to take on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra (our test) in the battle for the camera throne.

The 1-inch sensor (Sony Lytia 900) of the main camera is the same as Xiaomi’s, with Vivo relying on an aperture of f/1.75. The main camera is accompanied by a 50-megapixel Ultra wide-angle camera and a new 200-megapixel telephoto zoom camera. The latter offers an aperture of f/2.67 and has a 3.7x optical zoom, which enables a maximum 100x digital zoom.

All kinds of image modes and colors are offered. The X100 Ultra has a street photography mode with four dedicated focal lengths and a selection of styles and photo modes. In addition to a Zeiss Natural Mode, Textured Mode and Vivid Mode, there is now also a special mode for black and white photos.

The Vivo X100 Ultra records videos in 4K with up to 120 fps, including HDR recordings in 4K with 60 fps. Recordings in Dolby Vision are also possible. The Vivo V3 image processor supports the smartphone’s chip.

Similar to Xiaomi, Vivo also offers a special camera kit, called SmallRig, for the new smartphone. It also comes with an additional battery and dedicated shutter button.

Modern features in the Vivo X100 Ultra

Of course, the other features of the Vivo X100 Ultra are also impressive. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is supported by either 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, as well as 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of system memory. The AMOLED display from Samsung has a screen diagonal of 6.78 inches, a resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels and offers an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz and 1,440 Hz PWM dimming.

The battery holds a whopping 5,500 mAh and is said to provide up to 4.5 hours of uninterrupted 4K recording. Charging takes place with a maximum of 100 watts. Despite a thickness of just 7.8 mm, the Vivo X100 Ultra also has IP69 certification, which is normally only reserved for rugged smartphones.

Price and availability

The Vivo X100 Ultra will initially be launched exclusively in China on May 28, 2024 at a price starting at 6,500 yuan, which corresponds to around 833 euros. It comes with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB system memory. The top model with 16 GB / 1 TB costs 7,999 yuan, or around 1,025 euros. LTE band 20 is supported, which also makes the smartphone interesting for import to Europe.
