Xbox Game Pass: Diablo 4 joins Microsoft’s game library

Diablo 4 is the current top hit from world-famous developer studio Blizzard. Now the AAA title is set to find its way into Microsoft’s Game Pass game collection. The hack and slay will be available for download at the end of March.

Xbox Game Pass catches big fish with Diablo 4

Microsoft launched a truly successful model with Game Pass in June 2017. By paying either a monthly or annual subscription fee, gaming fans can enjoy an extensive library of games on Xbox or PC to their heart’s content. Microsoft makes games from its own development studios available for download on the day of release. According to the company itself, the service is doing extremely well. Game Pass currently has an impressive 34 million subscribers.

The tech company has now announced a world-famous new addition. Diablo 4 is to be added to the game library on March 28. Microsoft officially announced this yesterday evening. However, the game under the Activision label is only the beginning. Further blockbusters from the publisher are set to be added to the library in the near future. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is one of the shooters to follow.

Is Microsoft on the hunt for subscribers?

With a total of 47 million paying users, Sony is ahead of Microsoft. The service for the PlayStation offers a very similar model and allows not only multiplayer games, but also access to a game library. However, PlayStation fans often look enviously at the Game Pass portfolio. After all, some of the games here are much more attractive than those in the PS Plus lineup. This applies in particular to games from third-party developers.

Microsoft now seems to want to further exploit this advantage with the well-known Activision titles. Apparently, the service also needs to do so. After subscriber numbers virtually exploded during the coronavirus pandemic, the tech company is currently still experiencing solid growth, but it is significantly slower than in its heyday. The new AAA titles may be able to change this.
