Advertising subscriptions have become commonplace in the streaming sector – albeit, as in the case of Netflix, with rather moderate success. Microsoft could now also be planning an Xbox Game Pass advertising subscription, which comes with a significantly lower monthly price, but also with advertising.
Xbox Game Pass promotional subscription: New variants coming?
Microsoft could soon reposition the game flat rate Xbox Game Pass or add more variants. At least that’s what emerges from a survey that user Almalexia screenshotted in the Forum by ResetEra.
According to this, Microsoft is apparently not only planning an Xbox Game Pass advertising subscription or is inquiring about the potential interest of users, but also a “Family and Friends Subscription” for up to five people.
Microsoft does not say exactly how the ads will be displayed, but the price seems quite attractive. At least, if you can live with some restrictions.
Xbox Game Pass advertising subscription at a low price
Normally, the game flat rate comes at a price of 9.99 euros per month – or 12.99 euros per month for the Game Pass Ultimate, which combines all features and other benefits.
According to the survey, the Xbox Game Pass promotional subscription should only cost 2.99 euros per month. As in the Ultimate model, games on PC and console are supported. However, you would have to do without one of the most important selling points of the game flat rate.
First-party titles will thus only find their way into the promotional subscription after 6 months or more, and the game catalog would also apparently be slimmed down. Besides the fact that just advertising will be displayed – in whatever form.

Also family subscription conceivable
In addition, Microsoft is apparently also looking into an Xbox Game Pass family subscription, which would include all the features of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, i.e. games on PC, console, smart TV and even streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Including additional exclusive discounts, EA Play and all the bells and whistles that go with it. The difference is that the family subscription is not only available for one person, but five users can access the service.
However, it is unclear whether they have to be in the same household and belong to the same family. However, the potential name (translated from Spanish) of a subscription model “for video games with friends and family” suggests that it could also be used outside of a shared household.
The cost point here would be 21.99 euros per month. Sounds fair, considering that five individual Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions would cost 64.95 Euros per month. Whether and when the Xbox Game Pass advertising subscription and the family subscription will be implemented at all, however, is still completely open at the moment.
