Samsung screen time – how to control it

How much time do you spend staring at screens every day? How many precious minutes or even hours do you waste doomscrolling or watching worthless short videos? Questions like these have become increasingly important to the public in recent years. The realization that our usage behavior of smartphones, tablets and the like is by no means only positive is now common knowledge. The major manufacturers have also responded to this and now offer tools that allow you to track and regulate your screen time. Would you like to find out how you can display your screen time on Samsung? We’ll show you!

If you only want to take a quick look at your screen time, you need to go to the Digital Wellbeing settings:

  1. Open the settings of your Samsung smartphone.
  2. Select the item “Digital well-being and parental controls”.

Your current cell phone usage time is now displayed at the top. In addition to the number of hours and minutes for the current day, you will also see the values for the previous day. Below this information, the usage time is broken down by app. This allows you to see how much time you have spent in which application. This, in turn, is very useful. Tiktok, for example, explicitly recommends such a time limit for its underage users.

Limit cell phone usage time with Samsung

Perhaps you don’t just want to have your screen time displayed, but have a very specific goal in mind: Would you like to spend less time on Instagram to protect your mental health, start a digital detox and only spend two hours a day on your smartphone? Samsung offers you the option of setting a target screen time. To do this, you need to go to the Digital Wellbeing settings. Under the information already mentioned, you will find the item Target screen time. If you click on it, the Set target option appears. Here you can enter the target upper limit for cell phone use.

Samsung screen time as a widget

You also have the option of displaying the current screen time as a widget. This means you no longer have to go through the settings, but are informed about your usage time directly on the screen. This can be particularly useful if you are really serious about limiting your screen time – after all, you will be constantly reminded of how much time you have already spent on your phone today.

  1. Tap and hold an empty area of your home screen.
  2. Select “Widget” from the options that appear at the bottom.
  3. Enter “Digital Wellbeing” in the search bar that appears.
  4. Tap on the “Digital wellbeing” item that appears.
  5. Select one of the three widgets displayed as options.
  6. Tap on “Add”.
