Snapdragon X Presentation of the ARM chip as early as April 24?

Qualcomm’s new ARM chip, which could perhaps be the most exciting revolution in the notebook segment this year, has been circulating on the internet since March at the latest. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X is to be offered in many variants as the Elite and Plus series and could be unveiled as early as this week.

Qualcomm teases new products for April 24

We have known for some time that the first notebooks with Snapdragon X will be released as early as June, at Computex 2024. However, the official presentation of the chips – there is currently talk of at least eight variants – could take place in just a few days.

At least that’s what Qualcomm has now announced on X (formerly Twitter). April 24 will be the day. And it is also unmistakably clear from the teaser video that this is the Snapdragon X.

The Snapdragon X Elite is based on a CPU called Oryon, which combines a total of 12 computing cores in a 4 nm design and clocks at up to 3.8 GHz. Clock frequencies of up to 4.3 GHz should be possible in boost mode. Depending on the model, a base clock of more than 4 GHz is also offered.

According to the latest reports, including from PCWorld, the ARM chip from the US manufacturer should even make the Intel Core Ultra processors of the Meteor Lake generation look pretty old.

In a direct comparison with the Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 9 185H, the Qualcomm chip delivers 54% better CPU performance in the Geenkbench 6.2 single-core test than the Core Ultra 7 155H and requires 65% less energy for the same performance, according to the manufacturer.

Up to 52 percent more performance or 60 percent less energy consumption should also be possible in multi-core performance. Compared to the fast Core Ultra 9, 51 percent more single-core and 41 percent more multi-core performance is said to be possible. In the 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme graphics test, the Snapdragon X Elite is 36 percent faster.

The first notebooks with the new chip are coming from Lenovo and HP, among others, while Samsung and Microsoft are apparently also working on corresponding solutions. There should even be a lot on offer in the gaming segment, as the new notebooks are capable of running even the latest games.
