As part of the presentation of its latest technology highlights, Acer also presented the upcoming in-house Chromebooks. The manufacturer not only promises more performance, but also new features. We take a look at how promising the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 and Spin 514 sound.
Acer Chromebook Spin 714
If Acer’s words are anything to go by, the Chromebook Spin 714 sounds like the perfect mobile companion with high performance and a flexible design. According to the manufacturer, the Spin 714 should be able to offer 20 percent more performance than its predecessor thanks to a 12th generation Intel Core processor (max Core i7). This is also supposed to make the Chromebook a suitable work tool for content creators. Especially when you have to work on the go, the battery life of a maximum of ten hours will have a positive effect.
Thanks to the fast-charging function, you should get battery power for another four hours within 30 minutes of charging. Acer equips the Spin 714 with a 14-inch touchscreen, which is optionally available in WQXGA (2,560×1,600) or WUXGA (1,920×1,200) resolutions. Acer also seems to have thought of the most important things in terms of connectivity. Besides Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2, there are two USB-C ports including Thunderbolt as well as an HDMI port. If you ever have to work in the dark, you will also be happy about the backlight of the convertible’s keyboard.
Acer has also thought about the increasingly frequent video conferences. The manufacturer equips the Chromebook with an FHD webcam and a suitable microphone. A few more customized features can be added optionally. Among other things, the Chromebook can not only be unlocked faster with a fingerprint sensor, but also provide more security. Acer wants to launch its Chromebook Spin 714 in the third quarter of 2022. The MSRP is expected to start at 799 euros.
Acer Chromebook Spin 514
Unlike the Chromebook Spin 714, Acer relies on an AMD CPU for the Spin 514. Specifically, the Ryzen 5000 C-Series processors are used here. This gets support from the AMD Radeon graphics unit. Acer relies on a 14-inch IPS panel with FHD resolution for the display. The integrated webcam also offers an FHD resolution. In combination with two integrated microphones, there are best conditions for video conferencing.
Thanks to the Spin-typical hinge, this Chromebook can also be used in a wide variety of situations. No matter if notebook, tablet or monitor. Everything is possible here. Acer advertises the Chromebook as extremely robust thanks to its resistant aluminum casing. Consequently, parents should probably be persuaded to buy it for their children for school or studies.
In terms of connectivity, there is once again a bit less performance than in the Spin 714, so you “only” get WiFi 6 and the two USB-C ports without a Thunderbolt combo. However, an HDMI port is also available as an option, and the keyboard’s backlight allows working in low-light conditions. In view of the somewhat narrower features, the Acer Chromebook Spin 514 is also a bit cheaper than the Spin 714. The convertible, which will also be released in the third quarter of 2022, will be available at an MSRP starting at 599 Euros.
