After the presentation of the AMD X570 motherboards and AMD Ryzen 3000 processors with PCI Express 4.0, more and more manufacturers of SSDs are presenting corresponding models. With the XPG Gammix S50, Adata now also announces a PCI 4.0 NVMe SSD in the M.2-2280 form factor.
The Key Specifications of the ADATA XPG GAMMIX S50
The Adata Gammix S50 uses the PCIe 4.0 interface in such a way that a reading speed of up to 5,000 megabytes per second and a writing speed of up to 4,400 megabytes per second can be achieved. Adata previously used Silicon Motion, this SSD with the Phison controller PS5016-E16 will come onto the market. This is mainly because Silicon Motion will introduce the first PCI 4.0 counterpart to the market in 2020 at the earliest.
The Phison E16 controller uses an SLC cache to achieve top speeds. The DRAM cache is based on SK Hynix. With the help of this, up to 750,000 IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second) can be achieved. The Adata XPG Gammix S50 is to be offered with 1 terabyte and 2 terabyte storage capacity. Including the aluminium cooling cup, the size of the SSD is L 80 mm x W 22 mm x H 6.1 mm. Although other models are considerably higher, this model will not necessarily qualify for use in laptops. Especially because PCIe 4.0 support from AMD X570 and AMD Ryzen 3000 is limited to the desktop sector.
LDPD error correction against data errors, E2E data protection and RAID engine support are also used. Adata provides a five-year warranty, but this is subject to an unspecified amount of writing in TBW. The Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) was estimated at 1,700,000 hours.
When will the ADATA XPG Gammix S50 be available?
According to press releases, the Adata XPG Gammix S50 will soon be available at selected retailers. Further price details or a date of availability have not yet been announced by Adata.
