Amazon upgrades Echo Show 5 and 8

Amazon has announced that it will equip both the Echo Show 5 and the Echo Show 8 with more powerful cameras. Some other changes are also being made.

Echo Show 5 now with two megapixels

The Echo Show 5 has twice as many megapixels in the new variant as in the old: Henceforth, its camera is 2 MP strong. In addition, Amazon has announced a new color variant of the device: in the future, it will be available not only in anthracite and in white, but also in dark blue. All other specifications of the Echo Show 5, however, remain unchanged. For instance, it continues to be equipped with a 5.5-inch display that resolves at 960 × 480 pixels.

Echo Show 8 with thirteen times more powerful camera

The Echo Show 8 also previously only had a 1 MP camera. Here, the change is even more striking than in the 5 model: From now on, the device resolves with 13 MP. In addition, the new camera is supposed to be able to digitally pan and automatically fix the person to be seen during video calls. The zoom is also controlled automatically. The new Echo Show 10 has already been equipped with a similar feature.

The display of the Echo Show 8 is also being changed. It still measures eight inches diagonally and has a resolution of 1,280 × 800 pixels, but in the future it will have automatic color adjustment depending on the ambient light. Amazon also relies on something new in terms of the processor. The MediaTek MT8183 octa-core processor, which offers a clock rate of up to 2.0 GHz, will be used from now on.

Prices and availability

Both devices are available for pre-order from the US company now. The Echo Show 5 costs around 85 euros, while the Echo Show 8 is priced at around 130 euros.
