AnkerMake M5: 3D printer with impressive speed officially unveiled

At the beginning of February, Anker Innovations announced its intention to enter the 3D printer segment with AnkerMake (we reported). Now they have unveiled the AnkerMake M5, a first model that is being funded via the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Special features include an HD webcam with AI tracking, a simple setup that should take 15 minutes, and up to five times faster printing speed.

AnkerMake M5 launches on Kickstarter: all info

Anker is entering the 3D printer market with the AnkerMake M5 and has some innovative ideas in tow. With the new printer and associated AnkerMake ecosystem, the company says it wants to “promote creativity and the “just make it” mentality”. The comprehensive scope of delivery is intended to appeal to both beginners and professionals and offer an uncomplicated introduction to the world of 3D printers.

Anker believes that modern 3D printers have failed to gain a foothold in the mainstream due to slow print speeds, a complicated setup and various bugs that “cost time, resources and nerves” and wants to remedy this with the new M5.

The 3D printer can be assembled in just three steps, which should take even non-professionals less than 15 minutes. Features offered include 7 x 7 auto-leveling, a pause function, an RGB status display and notifications via companion app.

Print speeds of up to 250 millimeters per second

When it comes to printing, the AnkerMake M5 relies on powerful PowerBoost technology and a specially developed drive that is said to enable speeds of up to 250 millimeters per second at full detail.

The 3D printer also features an efficiency mode with acceleration of up to 2,500 millimeters per second squared, which can reduce the time needed to print by up to 70 percent compared to other 3D printers.

The M5’s housing is fabricated as aluminum and features dimensions of 502 x 438 x 470 millimeters. The 12.4 kg foundation also provides additional stability and reduces gravitational forces during printing, allowing the higher speed and detailed prints to be realized with a precision of 0.1 millimeters.

The print area of the magnetic and thus replaceable PEI print coating is a maximum of 235 x 235 x 250 millimeters. The M5 is thereby operated via a 4.3-inch touchscreen installed on the right side, which should also offer additional settings during printing.

Print monitoring thanks to full HD webcam

In addition, the AnkerMake M5 has a built-in webcam in full HD resolution, which allows monitoring of the print at any time (print monitoring). This is supposed to make it easier to avoid filament salad or shifted layers by immediately pausing and readjusting the print when an error is detected.

The webcam also has an LED that serves as an additional light source in the dark. It also allows you to watch the 3D printer at work while on the move and keep an eye on the current progress. Time-lapse recordings of the completed print can thus be saved at the touch of a button or shared directly via social media.

The AnkerMake app, which is offered free on iOS and Android, is also used for connection and control. A corresponding software for PCs and notebooks is to follow at market launch.

Special features:

  • Connection via WiFi, USB cable and USB stick
  • Compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice assistants
  • One-click sharing of Timelapse videos to Facebook, Instagram and more
  • CPU: Dual XBurst (1.2 GHz) + XBurst 0 (240 MHz)
  • Loudness: 50 dB
  • Printing Materials: PLA, TPU, ABS & PETG

Price and Availability of AnkerMake M5

The Kickstarter campaign for the AnkerMake M5 3D printer launched on the crowdfunding platform on April 06, 2022 at 10:00 pm. As a strictly limited Super Early Bird package, you can secure the M5 for 429 US dollars (the equivalent of about 390 euros), then the Early Bird package will call for 499 US dollars (about 453 euros). The 3D printer will then officially be available in Germany in the second half of 2022.
