Apple Watch 5: Always-on Display, Compass & Emergency Call

Apple has unveiled the new generation of its Smartwatch. The Apple Watch 5 offers an Always-on display in Retina quality and some other exciting new features.

Despite the permanently activated display, the Apple Watch 5 should still have a battery life of 18 hours without going into sleep mode. Among other things, this is made possible by the power-saving mode, which automatically dims the watch darker as soon as you don’t look at it.

Furthermore, the Smartwatch equipped with watchOS 6 offers a new emergency call function. The LTE version of the Apple Watch 5 can automatically activate the international emergency call in 150 countries if an accident is detected and the wearer does not move within one minute. This also works without a connected iPhone, the watch is self-sufficient at that time.

In addition, a compass function is now integrated to simplify navigation.

The Apple Watch 5 will be available in several versions. In addition to the aluminum and stainless steel models in three colors each, there will also be two titanium versions and a white ceramic watch. Nike and Hermes models are also planned again.

The Apple Watch 5 will be available from 20 September. The price of the GPS-Smartwatch starts at 399 US dollars. For LTE and GPS at least 499 US dollars are due. The Apple Watch 3 will also continue to be sold, starting at 199 US dollars.
