YHE BP Doctor Pro in test: smartwatch with blood pressure measurement

Smart watches with various sensors to monitor one’s health are plentiful. It becomes more unusual with the blood pressure measurement. For a meaningful measurement, you couldn’t get past cuffs or a measurement at your trusted doctor’s office. This could come to an end with the BP Doctor Pro, which has an inflatable cuff on the inside of the wristband. So, in addition to the other monitoring functions, blood pressure can be measured at any time. Let’s take a look at what the YHE BP Doctor Pro can do

Design and workmanship

Although smartwatches are actually indistinguishable from conventional watches, the YHE BP Doctor Pro’s design does make it quite striking. The silicone strap is a whole 30 millimeters thick and the chunky main part, make the watch look really big on small wrists. The strap is completely black and the watch itself has a silver metallic look. On the right side we still find two buttons that support operation via the touch display

At 60 grams, the YHE BP Doctor Pro is no flyweight on the wrist. It may be forgotten, of course, that with the smartwatch we get a cuff for measuring blood pressure

There is nothing to criticize about the watch’s workmanship. The silicone strap doesn’t feel incredibly high-end, though the material was certainly chosen for technical purposes. And we probably can’t disregard the price of 199 euros

Display and operation

The AMOLED display has a good resolution of 320 x 360 pixels. Since we don’t get too much info here either, we can’t tell you which glass is used to protect the 1.4-inch display

Depending on the brightness setting, everything can be seen well on the display, even in strong sunlight. The good resolution also ensures that all information can be recognized sharply. Colors are rendered vividly

The touch display reacts quickly to inputs without a big delay being noticeable. If you want to switch between different menus by swiping left or right, the movements are not always recognized well. However, the rocker switch on the right side can be used for support

Incoming messages can be displayed on the screen, but if you have already read them on the smartphone, they remain on the watch until you delete them there. The messaging area is the only one where the operation is really very awkward

Performance and sensors

As before, there is really little information provided here. Via targeted searching, we at least find the info that a Mediatek SOC with 208 MHz and an incredible 256 MB of memory. At first this doesn’t sound like much, but how the system runs is much more relevant

And since the display inputs are quickly implemented, we can attest a good performance here. Selected apps start quickly without much waiting time. The sensors also run reasonably, but we have to go into detail about their accuracy

In addition to the inflatable cuff, we find a sensor on the bottom of the watch for recording the pulse, blood oxygen (SP02) and monitoring sleep. Through the app, we can also look at calories burned, steps counted and pulse through the sensor

However, the pedometer works very inaccurately. Even simple activities, such as writing emails, can take 30 to 40 steps, even though the watch is hardly moved at all. The normal walk with 200 steps is only counted with about 100

The recording of the pulse also works more poorly than not. The resting pulse is recorded well, but presumably irregularities become visible during longer viewing. During activities, however, the watch overshoots the mark and even lugging boxes or going to the toilet suddenly looks like high-performance sports

Blood pressure measurement

Probably the most important function is blood pressure measurement. With the inflatable cuff as well as the sensor, the measurement should be reliable and accurate. After all, the YHE BP Doctor Pro is also recommended by doctors. At least three of them are quoted on the manufacturer’s product page

The instructions for the smartwatch indicate how the watch is to be attached, and there is also a note about the posture. The watch has to fit tightly and two finger widths away from the wrist. When taking measurements, the watch should be held at heart level

Before we get to values, here’s a quick note: Even though the YHE BP Doctor Pro might come close to a good measurement, it definitely does not replace a visit to the doctor

To cross-check the measured values, we also visited a doctor. The systolic pressure was between seven to nine points lower different in five measurements. The diastolic pressure was four to six points off. Doesn’t sound like much at first. But even a small deviation can mean that your blood pressure is too high or, according to the watch, that you already have hypertension

So never rely 100 percent on such aids. For rough monitoring of blood pressure and documentation, the YHE BP Doctor Pro can be used. If we disregard the sensor for the pulse or the pedometer

Battery

The battery capacity is only 180 mAh, but the YHE BP Doctor Pro doesn’t seem to consume too much energy. On average, we were able to use the watch for 4 days, depending on how often the blood pressure was measured. A runtime of 3 to 6 days is indicated, which fits

The watch is charged via a charging cradle into which it is pressed. A micro-USB to USB-A cable is included. Why it is not yet charged via USB-C remains a mystery to us

Conclusion

We cannot deny that the YHE BP Doctor Pro is well-made. The silicone wristband is not the highest quality, but it is necessary to ensure the functionality of the blood pressure measurement

When measuring the blood pressure, even small deviations can be seen in the values compared to a measurement at the doctor’s office. Even small deviations can already decide between normal and elevated blood pressure. The feature is good for those who want or need to regularly monitor their blood pressure for overview, even if it does not replace a doctor

The measurements of pulse or steps, on the other hand, do not play any role in this smartwatch. Both are so inaccurate that even the simplest smartwatches or even cell phones in the pocket measure better. Improvements are definitely needed here

In general, the YHE BP Doctor Pro offers a standout feature with blood pressure measurement. Together with the workmanship and design, it does not seem to be a bad smartwatch either. All other features are better implemented in other watches, even with a lower price

In any case, not recommended for the price in the price comparison!

83/100

Smartwatch with interesting features that cannot fully convince us. Except for the blood pressure measurement, the other sensors are not good.
