The new Arlo Go 2 is an exciting surveillance camera that can be used completely independently of the power grid. Even a WLAN connection is not necessary thanks to 3G and 4G connectivity.
Arlo Go 2: Wireless surveillance camera unveiled
The biggest feature of the Arlo Go 2 is its SIM card slot, which allows the surveillance camera to work without WLAN access. In combination with the built-in battery, which should last for several months, self-sufficient use is possible.
Conveniently, the built-in battery cells can also be recharged with the help of a solar module, which means that the mounted camera does not have to be removed from its intended location, at least in theory. The 3,660 mAh battery should even last for a year with WLAN use.
Within Wi-Fi range, the Arlo Go 2 can also be conveniently used with the existing Wi-Fi signal or fitted with a SIM card if the camera is to be placed outside the signal. Video recordings can be conveniently stored on a microSD card. The camera is protected against theft by a built-in GPS module, which also allows tracking via Google or Apple Maps.
Full HD videos
Videos are recorded by the Arlo Go 2 in full HD quality, i.e. 1920 x 1080 pixels, in H.264 format. It also features a night vision mode with 850 nm LEDs that shrouds a distance of up to 25 feet (8 meters) in light. Photos are recorded with up to 12x digital zoom, and the field of view is 130 degrees.
The camera is also equipped with a microphone and speaker that allow for conversations from people in front of the camera. In addition, a siren can be triggered – either at the touch of a button or when the camera detects movement.
The Go 2 has IP65 certification, thanks to which the camera is protected from rain, dust and dirt. It measures 86 mm x 64.2 mm x 120 mm and weighs 490 grams including the battery. In addition, security camera can be integrated with various smart home systems such as Amazon Alexa, Google and IFTTT.
Pairing with Arlo Secure
Pairing with Arlo Secure subscription is also optional. Then the camera has smart object detection that distinguishes between people, packages, vehicles and animals.
In addition, smart activity zones can be defined in the subscription, in which areas can be defined in which the camera sounds the alarm. Videos are also stored in the subscription for up to 30 days in the cloud and could be viewed there at any time and as often as desired.
