Asus Zenfone 9 launch: compact Android smartphone launches on July 28

With its 5.9-inch (or rather small) screen, the Zenfone 8 (our review) was pretty much alone in Android territory last year. The manufacturer now offers an improved, but just as handy successor in the form of the Asus Zenfone 9. It will be officially unveiled at a launch event on July 28.

Asus Zenfone 9: Presentation on July 28

On July 28 at 15:00 German time, the compact Android smartphone Asus Zenfone 9 will be presented to the public. The teaser website for the launch event is already online. Concrete details have not yet been revealed, however, makes under the motto “Compact Size. Big Possibilities.” but already whets the appetite for more.

The teaser shows an X-ray image on the smartphone’s display. It remains to be seen whether the new Zenfone has a similar X-ray scanner as the OnePlus 8 Pro (even if unintentionally).

According to current rumors and leaks, Asus once again relies on a 5.9-inch display that is supposed to offer a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The brand-new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip from Qualcomm is also supposed to work under the hood, which is supported by up to 16 GB of working memory depending on the model.

That would be the same flagship SoC that is also used in the new gaming smartphones Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro and 6, which only went up for pre-order last week.

The system memory is a maximum of 256 GB, with the entry-level model said to come with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM. There is also a 3.5 mm jack according to the specs, as well as a 4,300 mAh battery.

The Sony IMX766 sensor with 50 megapixels is supposed to be used for the main camera. Details about the second camera on the back are not yet available. However, the smartphone’s design is reminiscent of the Zenfone 8 in many areas. There is also talk of an IP68 certification, which promises high water resistance.

Price and availability

So, for concrete details about the Asus Zenfone 9, we will have to wait until July 28. However, leaker SnoopyTech expects a retail price between 800 and 900 Euros, which would be around 200 Euros more than the predecessor was called for.
