AVM: FRITZ!Box with Wi-Fi 7 coming; FRITZ!Smart Gateway with ZigBee too?

The German manufacturer AVM, known primarily for its FRITZ!Box routers, is preparing new devices with Wi-Fi 7 for the 2023 model year. According to rumors, they also want to offer a FRITZ!Smart Gateway with ZigBee as a smart home control center.

According to current rumors, AVM plans to use the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona for a number of exciting new products. In an invitation to German media partners, the company says it plans to showcase “the full power and connectivity of FritzBox for all connections”at the show.

Also promised are data speeds of up to 10 Gbps for devices of all kinds, from fiber to 5G. “We combine all this with the upcoming Wi-Fi 7 standard for new dimensions in speed and latency,” the manufacturer continues.

That AVM is now also jumping on the Wi-Fi 7 bandwagon is, of course, only slightly surprising. In the context of the MWC 2023, we could expect some new announcements from February 27 to March 02, 2023.

Wi-Fi 7 could become a hot topic in 2023 anyway. Because although the new standard has not been officially launched yet, it was already a hot topic at CES 2023. TP-Link also showed the first devices with the new WLAN standard.

Is the FRITZ!Smart Gateway coming?

Apparently, however, AVM is preparing another novelty and it comes in the form of the smart home central FRITZ!Smart Gateway. At least that’s what the website Boxmatrix reports based on unknown sources.

This is supposed to be a smart home bridge with ZigBee, which is also supposed to support DECT and Wi-Fi 5. However, the leak does not provide any concrete information so far – although the FRITZ!Smart product line would already represent a novelty besides Box, WLAN, Repeater and more.

So, it remains to be seen whether this smart home hub will actually be presented at MWC 2023. The manufacturer has not yet officially confirmed the existence of the FRITZ!Smart gateway.
